Julie's Story
Life
I currently live in a small community half way between Hamilton and St. Catharines right in the heart of wine country. My husband John and I met in highschool, however didn't get together until we were both out of post secondary schooling. We got engaged in 1996 on the beach at Port Stanley and got married the following year at Windermere Manor in the fall. Although I was a stay at home mom of 2 up until recently, I have now returned to work full time after being off for 5 1/2 years. Nicholas is almost 6 and Cameron is 4. Very busy!! I am currenty working on a degree from the University of Waterloo via the internet. My husband John is a design engineer and works at General Motors in the engineering design department. We moved here from London 7 years ago when he decided he wanted to become a part of the automotive side of General Motors. Come visit us and enjoy a glass of wine from one of the many we house in our community!
School
Although I started public school in Winnipeg at Riverwest Park, I moved to London, Ontario when I as 1/2 way through grade one. I was then enrolled in Arthur Ford public school where I made a lot of friends and was involved in a lot of sports. When I graduated in 1986 my family moved to the Oakridge area, where I was enrolled in Oakridge Secondary School. I made a lot of friends there as well, but fell off the earth as far as sports went. When I graduated from Oakridge, I went to St. Clair College in Windsor for a year and a half and then transferred to Fanshawe...Expand for more
College. Having had enough of Fanshawe College, I transferred back to St. Clair in 1995 and Graduated from the Paralegal Program in 1996. I worked in other unrelated fields for several years, and then became a stay at home mom. Now, 9 years later I am enrolled at the University of Waterloo where I am slowly but surely completing my B.A. What's next? Who knows. Time will tell!!
Workplace
When I graduated from college, I worked on a volunteer basis at the Better Business Bureau in London, Ontario. From there I got a job at an accounting firm in London called Davis, Martindale and Co. I worked in the bankruptcy department and loved it. I was with that company for 2 years and then quit to accept a job at General Motors in London, LAV division. There I was a buyers assistant and then moved up to the position of Spare Parts Coordinator for the Spare Parts Aftermarket Purchasing group. I dealt with several different contracts and groups such as the Canadian and US Army. I also tracked pricing for Australian, Saudi, and many more customer contracts. Then my husband and I moved to Beamsville and we both worked at General Motors in St. Catharines. Both in the engineering department. I was support and he was and still is a Design Engineer at the Engine plant. Now I spend full days with my two boys at home as well as working as a supervisor evenings to keep myself sane. I am hoping to go back to work full time doing........well I'm not sure yet, when both boys are in school full time in a few years.
