Julie's Story
Life
Since that rock star thing never really took off (although I still front a local band), I went the more traditional career route back when I thought the whole world was waiting for me open-armed. After high school, I went to NAU and earned a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism and Advertising. I worked in the media in for ten years, but as the business became more and more wretched and my personal goals continued to evolve, I ducked and ran for cover, doing the complete career change. This happened to coincide with my 30th birthday and an epiphone in a Havasupai Falls cave. Since it wasn't very practical to move to Venice and become a singing gondola sailor, I returned to a peasant's existence and completed a B.M. from ASU in Music Therapy. I'm now a board-certified music therapist. (Music therapy, by the way, is an ancillary health care profession along the same spectrum as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, etc., where music is the foundation for therapeutic interaction, addressing cognitive, psychological/emotional, social, communicative, and physical functioning. On the personal side, after many years of blessed single life and its accompanying adventures of travel and debauchery, I got married in 2001. My husband Steve is a gifted artist who makes his living in computer/internet technology and visual design. Our son Dylan was born in September of 2004 and daughter Kaylee was born in May of 2006. My younglings are amazing little creatures and as cliche as it sounds, this is what it's all about. And this is the one thing I have to do right. I have found that one advantage to becoming a parent later in life is that I don't feel I've sacrificed anything personally/socially. I'm perfectly content spending Saturday nights at home chasing and tickling! Also, since I made the very bad decisions that misdirected my 20s, I now have the wisdom to raise compassionate, competent, interesting children. Hopefully.
I always enjoy reconnecting with good friends and picking up where we left off...so let me know where you are and what you're doing!
