Julie's Story

I'm sure there are some people out there that I haven't seen since we graduated back in 1979. Others I still see on a regular basis. For those of you who haven't heard from me and want to know what I've been doing with my life, here's my story: In May 1979...graduated from Norman High...got a part-time job at the drug store by my house...started at OU in the fall, physical therapy major...changed to a business major in the spring...decided to stop out of school for awhile and work...worked full-time at the mall for a bit...worked full-time at a western wear store for quite some time...went back to school part-time in the spring of '82...moved to Colorado in May of '82...loved working and living there...moved back to Norman in October of '82...got a full-time job in downtown Norman for almost 2 years...got engaged..decided to go back to school, again, but full-time, this time, elementary education major...worked part-time at the College of Business...got married in Norman in May 1985! After getting married...we lived in Lake Charles, LA for 5 years, where my husband worked for an oil company in Westlake...I continued my education at McNeese State University, elementary education major...stopped out of school, again, this time to have babies...had 2 true Cajuns, a boy & a girl, just two years apart...moved to Elida, OH for the next 5 years, where my husband worked for another oil company in Lima...I didn't care much for Ohio...luckily we didn't have any children there! Oh, and while we lived there, my horse passed away back in Norman, he was 32 years old. He & I had been best friends since we were 13. After our years in the dreary midwest, I was thrilled when we moved to Glendale, AZ! We lived there for the next 12 years, where my husband worked for a small engineering consulting firm in Phoenix...one year after moving there, I was pregnant with our third child, another son...we also got our first pets, 2 cats named Buddy & Angel...and 8 years later, a Beagle named Spike...shortly before we left Glendale, we got another cat, her name is Squeaky...we moved to Tulsa, OK almost 3 years ago...lost our cat Buddy at the age of 11...added another cat, his name is Ziggy...and this past fall, we added a rescue dog named Sky, she's a chocolate lab! ing to Tulsa, my husband worked for an engineering firm downtown for a little over a year, but went back to work for his PHX company almost 2 years ago. My oldest son graduated from high school and started college back in Glendale, but moved with us and received his Associates from TCC. He is currently in the professional pilot's program at a long-time aeronautical school here in Tulsa. My daughter finished her program training at a private college here in Tulsa back in January, took her state board exam in February and is now a licensed esthitician. My youngest son is a middle school student and is in his second year of Chinese & cello and is active in soccer & Boy Scouts and volunteers at the local aquarium. He wants to be a marine biologist someday! All I ever wanted to do was be a stay-at-home mom...I was involved with La Leche League in Louisiana, Ohio and Arizona...a Girl Scout leader for 10 years in Arizona...Assistant CubMaster for my youngest son's Pack in Arizona...volunteered at all of my kid's schools in various ways...and was even on the board of my neighborhood association in Arizona. After we moved here and my husband had a job where he didn't travel, I decided that I finally wanted to have a "real" job. So I interviewed with several companies and was hired by SkyWest Airlines as a flight attendant. I attended training in Salt Lake City, UT for a month. We were the first class of 2007 and the largest class they ever had. We began with 65 students and graduated 50. And to my great surprise, I finished top of my class...and even received an award for my accomplishment! It was so much fun. But then my husband decided to go back to work for his old company and that meant that he would be on the road all the time, so I resigned my position and came home. My kids were all thrilled to have me back home...especially the oldest one!!! I guess even 20-year-olds need their mommy sometimes! Since then there have been ups and downs, but we're all still here...and all 3 kids are still living at home...for the time being! We will celebrate 24 years of marriage in May and our kids are 22, 20 and 13 years of age. Let me know what you've been up to...leave me a note...send me a message...and I hope to see you at our 30th reunion in July!!! au revoir
