Julie's Story
Life
It's been a VERY LONG time!
About time we caught up, don'cha think? We're not getting any younger - that's fer sure.
Sold my RowHouse in DC after 9/11, and am back in Portland enjoying life, helping develop several new clean energy options, and working to help craft policy to create future green jobs. Mostly Retired as of 2020!
Wow, a lot has happened! In 2009, I sold an 1882 Victorian farmhouse in Portland, and am rolled that profit into a Craftsman bungalow on a big lot in Parkrose, was an AirBnB Host a few years, and Hosted a lot of live music events there. Sold it Aug 2019. Have mostly recovered from a Car Wreck in 2013.
Having a great time, with a life filled with music & laughter of many friends. I'm really fortunate, and many days feel I can barely keep up. Hope to travel again in coming years, SARS2 has changed everything. I've added Chickens to my current garden in Arbor Lodge/Overlook area of Portland, They are fun and sweet!
Had many international adventures since I left LCHS, WPC & AU. I am occasionally bi-coastal, and still enjoy spending time in Montana when possible.
It's been a great life. Yes, I do miss my twin Jennie and my folks a lot. My friends, sisters, and my Nephew Dustin and nieces Autumn and Jessica, have brought wonderful kids into our lives, and all have been a blessing. Numerous friends has passed on over the years, but my family keeps getting bigger, because I remain engaged in the community and adopt more people along the way...everywhere I live. We are never truly alone.
When you are visiting this verdant Alpine Rainforest region, let me know, and let's get together. In the meantime, tell me what you are up to...send an email on Yahoo, using mikalson2002.
Happy Trails to you!

College
Warner Pacific College was a fantastic place to be, after cozy little Eureka, Montana. Portland is green and friendly, and WPC was a wholistic, fun place with a focus on each person. Most classes had 6-20 members - which meant great access to Professors, personal encouragement and quality feedback.
I was selected by President Gilliam to participate in the Eli Lilly Scholars program, which meant dinners in the President's office with major thought-leaders when they were in town, including Chicago Theologian Martin Marty, and nazi-era resister Helmut Thieleke. They flew me around the US to participate in dialogue with interesting people, for vision-and perspective-building. A highlight was being chosen a Debate Respondent to Polio Vaccine scientist Jonas Salk. He spoke on Human ...Expand for more
Values - and was really out of his element, poor guy...clinging to an assumed_natural progress_ model illustrated by time-line anecdotes around an odd California-version Ying-Yang symbol. Students judged me the winner.
Favorite memories at WPC - included being embraced by SO MANY well-wishers the year I was named Homecoming Queen; many fun field trips, including informing E.Joe that the Feds passed Title 9 - and we ARE gonna have Women's Sports! That same year I played the first Women's volleyball league WPC had. All-nite study/party events, Resident Counsellor experiences with fellow students, Saturday-Nite-Live evenings, prison & preaching ministries, beach trips, summer camps, most *anything* associated with Brent Hofer, David Martinez, FRED and many other zany friends! VERY happy we are all now re-connecting - via FB.
I wish everyone well, and welcome your email.
Workplace
After 20 years of working for human service organizations, like liberal arts colleges and anti-poverty programs, I worked with Adult Felons at the Metropolitan Public Defender.
Since then I've spent 16 years as a Sustainable Strategies and resource Development Consultant. I', semi-retired, but still help boost effectiveness of progressives and not-for-profits, and help folks start or grow businesses to create living wage jobs. I enjoy empowering Inventors and innovators whose work could have global potential for Good.
Since 1996, Clients have been in Washington DC, Maine, Montana, Oregon and California, including a film distribution project in which I pioneered nationwide volunteer coordination and documentary film distribution using the Internet. A small Foundation found me online, and hired me for work out east, and a couple years working mostly in Washington, DC confirmed my hunches about the practical challenges my Clients face. DC Clients included the American Bar Association, the National Parks Conservancy, the Potomac Conference, and numerous others.
I was engaged in strategy for a sustainability project I think of as re-writing the Global Corporation. Sounds ambitious - but I had a stellar opportunity - to prepare to meet global needs by manufacturing and Contracting for use of a terrific New Thing. Hopefully, you will hear more later about that one.
My work has been broad-ranging, in part due to my varied and self-directed Liberal Arts education at WPC. I thank all of you who were part of it.
Peace and health for YOUR journey,
