Kamesa's Story
Life
Hello everyone!!! I am currently living in Jacksonville, FL! The hurricanes have not hit us again for the 2007 season and we pray that 2008 will be just as blessed. Otherwise, I am GREAT! I'm married-- we just had a 2nd son on March 4, 2008. We also have a 12 year old son.
School
I hated high school and could not wait to graduate. Sometimes I think I hated high school because it didn't live up to what I expected it to be--damn you, television and books! If I could do high school over, I would not have taken myself so seriously and not worked as hard. Don't get me wrong, I would still study and make good grades, I just would not have been so obsessive about it. I would have had more boys in my life than just Torrick Hayes. I definitely would have broken the rules and questioned authority a whole lot more. I am excited about the reunion but I dread driving 12 hours to Greenville in a SUV with a cubic ton of baby gear.
College
While college was not an episode of "A Different World", it was a hell of a lot better than high school! As soon as I stepped foot on the campus of Saginaw Valley...Expand for more
State, nothing was dull!! I had such a great time at SVSU; I pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was a tour guide for new students, I was involved with many minority organizations and was active with my major's (social work) organizations! I made lots of new friends and even met my hubby!!
Workplace
Professionally, I am a social worker. Early motherhood and living in Greenville forced me to abandon my dreams of journalistic glory (I still write, but I'm very shy about selling my work) but I have learned that social work and helping poor and disadvantaged people obtain justice is my true calling. My calling currently finds me working with teenage mothers in the foster care setting. They live in a group home with their babies and we assist them with parenting and independent living skills. The facility I work at is one of a few in Florida that allows teen mothers to live in foster care with their children. I've also been a child abuse investigator, a welfare eligibility worker, and a counselor at a teen runaway shelter. I've also assisted special education students in middle school.
