Karen's Story

I graduated from St. Paul's in 1962. I went to Beauty School and worked at Eastland for a few months. Worked for S.S. Kresge in their Office bldg on 2nd and Temple downtown for about 4 years. Married John Charles Hawman in 1965, had 3 son's, Jason (1966) Eric (1967) and Alexander (1968). Moved out of Detroit and into Clinton Twp. John worked for Detroit Edison for 45 years. I worked as a Computer Operator for Hamill Mfg which was brought out by Firestone then brought out by TRW. Went to Macomb College and got an Associate Degree in Business Data Processing. Worked for Church's Lumber for 6 months, Worked for Fidelity Bank as a COBOL Programmer for a year. About then John was getting ready to retire and I worked tempor...Expand for more

I did work as a executive secretary for Independent Opportunities (they managed 6 group homes for developmentally disabled adults.) in 2005 John and I moved to Tucson, Arizona, I volunteer for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in the digital library. John died January 9, 2014. He was cremated and I took his ashes back to Detroit after Easter and they were scattered in the Detroit River, he used to sail for Detroit Edison for several years and was once their Vice Commador. Currently, I'm still in Tucson and have gotten into Tax Liens and Tax Deeds Investing. My middle son Eric lives with me, he works for Target's warehouse. I have 1 grandson and twin granddaughters from my son Alexander and his wife Robin.
