Karen Bell:

CLASS OF 1962
Parkersburg, WV
Parkersburg, WV

Karen's Story

Back in hometown in 2005 after living out of state for 34 years! After all those years it was like moving to a new town with all the changes, like learning all the route number changes and traffic patterns. I lived in rural area and Parkersburg when in High School, thus finding out what it was like to ride the bus instead of walking to school. My first job was with Marbon Chemical Company and they were very accepting taking me under their wing since I had just turned 18 in October. Marbon wanted to hire me when I applied but had to wait till I was 18. I worked a couple of years after marriage then resigned to raise my first child, but working part-time to fill in at Marbon during vacations and illnesses of their employees, so there was as much work as I wanted. I attended Hamilton Jr. High as the first classes after it was newly built. I was just back to class at Hamilton for some adult computer classes since not in our education and learn more then I did while employed. I'm enjoying myself getting to reconnect with old friends, and...Expand for more
making new ones since I've moved back. While living in Ohio I of course I never hesitated to set them straight in their preconceived knowledge of WV, when they tried their WV jokes on me, but having a sense of humor as always, I just gave as good as I got figuring I was an interstate ambassador. I guess they think we're really hillbillies in defination but not in reality. My kids went to a double AA rual school that used tractors in Ohio to move the seating from a softball diamond to the football field for season changes. Now they are up to Parkersburg standards however. Lancaster, Ohio only had one hospital, and no shopping center at the time, no bus service so just cab service. I've been off Classmates.com for years and hope to reconnect with classmates again to catch up on everyone. I've only attended one class reunion, but had a good time trying to place everyone I met and renew friendships. Maybe more of us can make the next reunion. Hope more classmates join for there sure is not near as many as we graduated with were there?
