Karen's Story
Hello, there! I am Karen Bidgood, born 1942, in Atlanta, Georgia. (Full name: Billie Karen Bidgood). Because my father was in the Air Force, we traveled the world wide over, living as children in French Morocco and Germany, and later back to the States, to Maine, and then to Honolulu,Hawaii. Through the years, whenever any kind of holiday came up, we'd travel to new adventures. Wow, 18 countries by the age of 18, a great life. I stayed on in Hawaii, 14 glorious years. I have a B.A. Degree in English from the University of Hawaii. At UH, I was very active with "Ka Leo o Hawaii", being a reporter, Copy Desk Chief, and had a theatre column. After Hawaii I lived in Reno for 2-l/2 years, San Francisco for 3, and since 1981 have lived in San Diego. My very rewarding career background has been in newspaper writing, editing, public and community relations, arts development and arts programs, fundraising, and events planning. the last several years, I have been with a really great publishing company. Two highlights of my career: an internship at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. and winning an award for "The Greatest Contribution to the Arts in Nevada." On a personal level, I am a great fan of Grand Opera. I thrill to the sound of baritones and tenors, the closing of the curtain when Rudolpho cries out, "MIMI!" etc. etc. Well, I just love music in general, classical, folk music, Bluegrass, oh my the list goes on... I like things Japanese, such as the grace and elegance of the floral arrangments, the Bunraku puppets, Kabuki Theatre, and Japanese films. I love to travel, to have great conversations, like to dance ("gotta" dance!"), old classic films, good movies, and books, hiking, nature, ethnic cuisine, the subject of ethics and other philosophical thought. I like bicycling, love Garrison Keillor. And I love beautiful things.
