Karen's Story
Life
Hi,
I left the Philadelphia area in 1980 and moved to California. I worked in the computer industry and Silicon Valley was the place to be. In 1985, I started Foresite, a software company specializing in electronic forms. I traveled the world and saw many beautiful places and made many friends. In 1995, I bought a flight school and two airplanes. We created an environment friendly to women and children and became one of the top flight schools in the Bay Area. I married the FAA examiner who issued my license and we celebrated our tenth anniversary this year. I sold the school in 2000.
Since then I wrote a couple of screenplays, planted a lemon orchard and expect my first crop this winter of Meyer lemons. And started a stained glass business and coloring book business. So I am keeping busy and having lots of fun. I hope life has been good to you!
Workplace
Worked in sales and marketing for technology companies from 1973-1985. Then I started a software company (electronic forms) and traveled internationally to develop the business in conjunction with Unisys until 1995. In 1993 was diagnosed with phase 1 emphysema. During a trip to Africa while flying with a good friend, I decided to get my pilots license, something I had started when I was 20 but put on ho...Expand for more
ld to pursue computers. To convince myself I could quit smoking, I bungee jumped off the Victoria Falls Bridge in Zimbabwe. That was an amazing experiece. You feel like a hawk.
By 1995 I ended up buying two airplanes and a flight school. We built a dynamic flight training environment and I ran that until 2000. During that time I set a city-to-city speed record in my Katana from San Carlos to Santa Barbara and met and married the love of my life.
Since I retired in June, 2000, I planted 40 Meyer lemon trees and have an internet lemonade stand. I also create stained glass images from pictures that people send to me of their animals. I also wrote two award winning screenplays (as yet unproduced) one about the Wright Brothers told from their sister Katharine's perspective. The second about the Reno Air Races where my husband has competed for the past 27 years and has more laps on the course than any pilot in the history of Reno. I met Dave when he tested out a new plane we were considering for the fligth school. He was also my FAA Pilot Examiner who issued my license. Then we started dating and eleven years later are madly in love. Life is a series of chapters and you never know what the next one may be or where it will take you. May your life be joyful and exciting.
