Karen's Story
Life
I have been on a journey to find myself over the last several years since our last reunion. Now that my children are older, I have a little more time for me. It feels good! The first one, our daughter Shauna graduated from NIU in December 2006 with a B.A. in English and teacher certification for 6th through 12th and a middle school endorsement. She married Cody in May 2007, another English teacher and they live in the Danville, IL area with both having secured employment for the fall. Shauna received her Masters form the U of I in 2011 in Library and information Sciene and is the mother of Lukas, my first grandchild. on at Indiana University and received his Masters in Library and Information Science in December 2012 and is currently looking for employment. I have been married to a 1973 graduate of Niles West (Remember, East is least, West is best, and North is air-conditioned)for the past 25 years and we have lived in Hoffman Estates, IL for the past 19 years, 14 of them in the same house. It's weird since I know so many people who are on their second, or third marriage, divorced, or maybe still single that I have been with the same person for so long. Some people think we are siblings, not spouses because we have that kind of relationship. I encountered a bump in my road in November of 2011 when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer, but have gone through treatment and am doing well (on most days).
