Karen's Story
Life
I love the beautiful humidity free summers and ice free winters of Oregon. At the same time I'm suffering severe lake withdrawal after 3 years in Oregon and will be moving back to Minnesota in the coming year. I live an hour from the ocean and get out there about every couple months. It's fabulous in the winter with the wind on the water with the tourist free beaches. It still amazes me to start cutting grass in April. It just seems wrong for grass to stay green year round and grow before Memorial Day.
School
I had a few crushes which seem either embarrassing or silly now or bring up a tinge of regret that I wasn't braver in general. I had a grand end to school with the softball team going to state. I remember in general just being really happy with how it all ended. With the "wisdom" of adulthood, I see things I missed back then in people and in experiences, but if I did it all again, I'm not sure it would be different. For all those who were friends, could have been friends, were kind or were not so kind, you have helped to form who I am and I think I'm pretty great, so thank you.
College
I LOVED my first go round in ...Expand for more
college at U of MN, Morris. Shelly, Catie, Amy, Kelly, Darcy, Mike, John, Eric, Jim, Dan...wow, just listing some of your names brings back such memories. The list goes on and I'm so grateful to have known all of you. As an "old" lady in her 30s going through nursing school at the University of Minnesota, I got to see my younger classmates living the same experiences I had back then. I think I worked harder the second time around, but I lived better the first time at Morris. It will always be in my heart.
Workplace
Babysitting-summer in the district office-the first "real" job in Purchasing the summer in the smelly trailer at FMC. Lots of temp jobs in the summer mostly at Carlson Companies until I left for England. First job at Cabrini House then to PDI and from there a leap into nursing. My latest position is as a clinical staff supervisor over medical assistants at a primary care clinic. Lots of volunteer work in between running retreats, small groups for religious ed, committee work at church, lectoring, eucharistic minister, volunteer at nursing home, hospital volunteer. Variety keeps the brain alive and I still feel 22!
