Karen's Story
Life
After graduation from Jacksonville University with a double major in German and French, I returned to live and work in Germany, where I spent my Junior year. I landed a job with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and took care of Hong Kong's participation in all sorts of trade shows all over East and West Europe. I married a German man and have a now 32 year old son. In 1982 I returned to the US, divorced, and got into the tourism industry, as Executive Director of a tourist promotion agency. Not for me, though, all of those hours! So I got into tobacco sales. Also not for me, all of those hours! Finally I studied to become a massage therapist and at the same time, I also landed a job with a German company in PA, for whom I worked as the Employee Benefits Representative. Unfortunately, due to the wonderful German SAP program, my job was eliminated in September of 2003. I had my own massage practice on the side, and worked for a chiropractor one evening a week. am heavily involved in ballroom dancing, salsa, hustle, Argentine Tango and tennis.
On Friday, November 14th, 2003 I married for the third and final time. David and I have been dancing together for quite some time. We moved to Florida in January 2004 and have built a new home in North Port. After a year and a half I finally found a full time job with pretty much the same pay as I was earning in PA for a large roofing company in Fort Myers.
In 2007 I finally started competing in ballroom with my instructor. I placed first, second or third in all of my heats in the last 4 competitions in the level of gold, above gold, and silver. I also won lots of money by winning my scholarship competitions. This year I won rhythm championship for the year and a beautiful crystal trophy!
Dave and I have rescued 4 kitties and still dance many times a week. Age is creeping up on both of us, which we notice by all the aches and pains we awake to. Dang, here I thought I'd stay young forever!
