Karen's Story
In 1993 I married Douglas Peak whom I dated in high school. He is a board certified technical lab supervisor for the Medical Faculty Associates IVF/Andrology Lab in Washington DC on the Campus of Geo. Washington Univ. He graduated from U-Mass, Lowell with a degree in Biology and a concentration in Molecular Biology. Before moving, I worked for Camp, Dresser and McKee in Cambridge, MA. After moving, I worked for the MFA Dept of Neurosurgery until leaving to become a mom and follow my own dreams!
In 1998 we had Connor. Luckily, I have been blessed with a husband who knows the importance of parents raising children and who supports me in my decision to stay home and raise Connor. In 2004, Sarah followed.
In 2000 I opened West Wind Dog Training a...Expand for more
nd behavioral consults. I am a member of the APDT and IIABC. In 2001, Doug and I developed the Safe Kids/Safe Dogs Project which was awarded a dog-bite prevention program grant from the VA Dept of Health's center for Injury and Violence prevention. In 2004 I became the pet editor for Your Life Magazine.
I am able to work my schedule with classes and public speaking around my husband's job so one of us is always home with the kids.
In 2008, I started substitute teaching for the county pre-school program and in 2009, I began subbing for the county elementary schools.
In Oct of 2010, Connor was highlighted on Animal Planet's Dogs 101 - Shetland Sheepdog - for the work he is doing as a high functioning Autistic child who is working with dogs.
