Karin's Story

I always wanted to be a professional dancer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a suitable idea. As it turns out, they were not surprised to see that dancing remained a hobby for me, but never became a profession, as there were other innate talents that were yet to be developed. I love to be out in the wilderness. It seems that a natural environment does much to soothe my soul. Yoga and other forms of bodywork are a great source of nourishment for me. Outside of my indulgence in pop/rock inspired 80's wardrobe, I don't think that I was ever to wild. A bit eccentric? Maybe. Stupid? Most definitely... I would like to think I was not the only one. Wild? probably not. As far as my inspirations go, I'd have to think about that for awhile. I'd say there were many. Some were more profound than others, but I have always spent my time trying to learn from the subtle happenings of life... the ebb and flow, the yin and yang of it all. I know this is not a "one woman show," but I do believe that everything in my life has happened for a reason, that everyone (from those that have been a dominant presence in my life to those that were there only temporarily, even if just for a passing moment) has added to who I am as a person. I now reside in the metro Atlanta area. After leaving my family home in Cleveland, TN, I spent some time living out near the Ocoee river, then in WV near the New and Gauley rivers working as a raft guide. My current obsessions are: working hard to raise my son and build my two businesses, and educating people on how to be active participants in their own health and well being. I am a bit of a Battlestar Galactica fan, and I enjoy watching a variety of movies. The biggest surprise of my life has been to find out that if I set goals and work really, really hard at attaining them, I generally accomplish them. It sounds simple, but when I was a child I was not aware of the fact that almost anything is possible if a person sets their mind to it. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the downstairs bathroom/laundry room area and add on a mack'd out jetted tub where I could go to escape the daily routines of life. My dream home would be somewhere in the mountains overlooking a river. My almost 2 year old son has taught me that I have more patience and endurance than I ever thought I could have, and that I should hold those that I love close to me as much as I can because time really does flyyyyyyyy. My current age is 35. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be almost over the hill. I was so completely young and unaware. ting raw, whole foods. I plan to continue to grow both businesses in an effort to help others achieve optimal health and well being in there own lives. I share my home with my husband and son, which I find completely wholesome and nourishing. In 10 years, I hope to be financially independent, healthy, happy, and still in love with the world . I'm going to get there by staying very much focused, completely motivated, and always humble . My first job was at Mama Joe's restaurant, where I got paid the minimum wage of that time (don't remember) to bus tables and fold cloth napkins. What I remember most about it is the interesting people that worked there and how uncomfortable I was communicating with people. One of my fondest childhood memories is of an occurrence that happened to me while vacationing at a beach with my family. I was young, most likely I would have been younger than 6 years old. There was a five foot band of stranded jellyfish all along the beach that was very much impenetrable by a quite young and very much scared, little girl. Her two older brothers, who were not afraid of the jellyfish, moved about the beach with no hesitation completely amazed at how they could actually pop the bubbled bodies of the beached jellies. Surrounded by the jellies, and upset and crying that her brothers had left her behind in pursuit of such great fun as popping the jellies' bubbled bodies, the little girl was left wondering how to find a path that would allow her to escape from the potential stinging treats that surrounded her. The next thing that happened would open her eyes to the kindness that can be found in this world and, further, affected the time and the care that she would take in making all future decisions. A notably young and handsome twenty something man approached the little girl. He pursed his face with such kindness and joy such as to not seem unfriendly to the girl. His hair seemed almost transparent as the sun gleamed through the arced red waves coming from his head. The young man picked her up and held her comfortingly as he asked her name. His movement was slow and his tone of voice was filled with much generosity as he carried her over the danger of stinging tentacles and bubbled bodies. As he sat her down on an open white plane of sand she could feel the the safety of the warm sand as her feet sunk firmly to the ground. Though for a brief moment in time she was unsure and frightened by what life had previously placed before her, at this moment in time she felt unafraid and ready to live life to the fullest. In that moment, as she faced the comfort of the predictable again and as her momentum pushed her to the lapping waves of the ocean, she simply stated with a smile, "My name is Karin."
