Life I own and run Notable Beginnings Music School in Louisville. We teach instrumental and vocal lessons to beginners of all ages and we also work with lots of different types of special needs students. It's a little stressful, but mostly lots of fun and hardly feels like a "real" job. I moved here a few years ago from Wisconsin (with my husband since 1995, Bruce), where I was a middle and high school band director for 7 years before I opened my first school there. In 2002, I earned my M.M.Ed. at the University of Louisville studying horn and early music, and I've done some nationally published research on teaching music to students with dyslexia. I still play horn, sing and conduct here and there, but I'm starting to get more focused on family stuff since my son, Parker James O'Brien Vance, was born on 9/6/07. I would love to say that I'm traveling the world with an important performance and recording schedule, but nope! The only recording I'm doing these days involves making CDs of my students on GarageBand for their auditions.
