Kathleen's Story
Life
After graduation from Ben Lomond High School, I worked for the Boy Scouts of America for 5 years. My then husband, Rich Garr, and I decided to join the Air Force.
We went to Nellis AFB, NV for 2 years, then to Torrejon AB, Spain for 3 years, then back to Nellis. Stephanie was born while we were there. Then Rich got out and I was sent to Incirlik AB, Turkey for a year. When I came back, I had orders to Camp New Amsterdam, but had twins (Brett and Steve) 2 months premature, so I went to Charleston AFB, SC instead. Rich and I divorced just before I left. I spent 5 years in Charleston, then transferred to Hickam AFB, HI. All three kids and I spent just over 4 years there. I married Ed Volk just before we left. We went to Tinker AFB, OK. We were there for 3 1/2 years. Ed and I divorced in 1996 and I transferred to Grand Forks AFB, ND. In 2001, I had a chance to come back to Utah and transferred to Hill AFB in July. hief Master Sergeant with 30 years in the Air Force in May 2004. I worked at the Davis Applied Technology College for abut 4 1/2 years arranging training for Hill AFB and other commercial companies.
I now work at Hill AFB for the Defense Information Systems Agency.
Life is great! I spend a lot of time with my immediate family. We travel, camp, and have lots of family dinners together. It's great to be home.
College
When I graduated from High School, I hated school. I had no desire to go to college, so I went to work instead. After joining the Air Force, I met a Lieutenant in one of the units I was in and he made an impression on me so that I wanted to go to college. I started with just a couple of classes. I got my associate degree in 1983, then went on to get my BS. That was in 1986. In 1994 I had a chance to get me MA for free, so I went and finished it in 1995.
Now I'd just like to go to take classes that interest me and not for any degree.
