Kathleen 's Story

Kathleen (I'm Kathy to everyone) lives in Indianapolis, Indiana; I moved here after graduating from ISU Terre Haute in 1973. I am married to Lavergne Vern) Rensing, formerly of Damiansville, IL (St. Louis area). He grew up on a farm and graduated from ITT (Sam's) Tech, and worked at UPS in Indy 37 years. We have been married 46 years and have two grown children and one 11 year-old grandson. Everyone lives in Indianapolis. My schools include Harrison High School (1969) and Indiana State University (1973 in Medical Technology). Upon graduation, I worked at Winona Hospital in Indy on North Meridian St. Winona has since been torn down! Later, I was a stay-home mom, Girl Scout leader, and band mom. I also worked part-time 9 years at Century Pharmaceuticals as a packager when my children were older. My husband retired early from UPS after 37 years there with three years spent in the South Bend Area. Our family was in love with the northern part of the state until we relocated back to Indy. Kids attended Lawrence Township Schools. Our son is married, works at Mark III Property Management, and our daughter works at Republic Airways. My interests have never really left the band and flute playing. I play in the Indianapolis Municipal Band, Indy Winds Flute Choir(see our page on Facebook. and occasionally Brandywine Wind in Greenfield, IN I have also played in the Greenfield Orchestra.I went to the Netherlands with the Greenwood Community Band recently. I seriously love all kinds of music. My husband has a HarleyTrike, and I have accompanied him on a couple long trips which were pretty fun. We also have a boat and access to water. I prefer the boat!! Since he...Expand for more
retired early, we have been able to travel all over. I came to Evansville as an eighth grader and I would like to thank Gayle Prusz, Steve Worthington, Steve Rudolph and the whole McCutchanville School bunch for asking me to attend basketball games and dances, etc. I never felt excluded. My besties were Jane Rothert, Kathy O'Neal, and Mary Hicks. We all moved on to Harrison and I absolutely loved all of it. Our school spirit was heartfelt, and I think everyone studied really hard! I have memories of the pep rallies, Mr. Purcell's home room, and lunch, and working in the library. The musicals were great, and I enjoyed riding the fan buses to State Track meets to watch (I admit it) Vaughn Wedeking and the seniors break all kinds of basketball and track records. Our cheerleaders were pretty great, too! I was in Mr. Purcell's homeroom. While looking at the yearbook, I started remembering so many people and events that I decided to send yearbooks in. I still have copies of all four years. "Classmates" wants to copy and sell them, but soon you will all be able to look at them online just in time for the reunion. I am doing this in honor of the last reunion and now the 50th!!!! I sure hope everyone gets to listen to lots of sock hop tunes, and enjoy a fun evening of reminiscing. Edit: I couldn't attend the last reunion, but will do the 50th. Or come visit me in Indy after we all reaquaint. I have posted a photo on Classmates.com of my class ring!!! We sure had an unusual way of choosing a ring! I am surprised at the lack of photographs from my times in high school. If anyone has any more, I would greatly love to see them. Looking forward to the 50th reunion!
