Kathryn's Story
For bread, roof, and cat/dog food, I am a freelance graphic designer in suburban Kansas City, having added the care of home health/safety/nutrition for the elderly to my avoidance of homelessness. Ye gods, I don¿t want to move again, but now I¿ve almost organized my stuff for this gypsy lifestyle. One more big garage sale.
Married twice: first (late 60s to mid-70s) with one child, now deceased in adulthood (too long and sad a story); second time (I did a stint in the U.S. Navy, mid-70s to mid-80s, Hospital Corpsman) to a sailor ¿ my personal Jack Sparrow in every sense since I¿m still in love with JACK, but don¿t ever want be in his life (sure wish I could find him, though ¿ I think he owes me money, but then he probably thinks he doesn¿t); and ¿widowed¿ out of one long term relationship with a farmer/county agent who died eight years ago.
Twice a year I attend a musical camp-out weekend that is heaven (the only one I will admit) on Earth. The conversations are cogent, the speech courteous, the wine (a glass & ...Expand for more
a half is my limit for the weekend) is good, the commune(ity) of the finest kind ¿ generous and open with ourselves, the dogs and kids are well-behaved and much loved by all attendees, the art (including my all-hands-welcome chalk paintings) inclusive, the food varied & deliciously shared, and peace is absolute. And the MUSIC is live and participatory ¿ neither the most boring amateur ¿songwriter¿ nor the worst tin-ear is not told to shut up (that would be me, sometimes, so I know) ¿ and spontaneous and of every variety known to humans. I hope I die there one weekend, and have asked the hostess to let me be until all have departed before she calls the authorities to remove the carcass. I wouldn¿t want to spoil the party for anyone. :-)
[whodathunk ASCII characters would go south on this site - the above upside-down Qmarks are supposed to be quote marks and apostrophes with an en-dash thrown in here and there ¿ aahhhhhhhh!!! Let¿s see if they work in this edit. The typesetter never dies!!!!]
Hey, hey everyone.
