Kathy's Story

Life A carefree little person until I was diagnosed with Perthese disease in 1st Grade. In second grade I was gouged in the eye by a neighbor kid; plus was deemed a genius by IQ TESTS and hastily graduated in a mock ceremony. What pomp and ceremony! It seemed I was condemned to live the life of a blind and crippled person. But it has not turned out too bad, I had my vision recently restored and the doctor took me off the crutches after only 2 years. But I don't seem to have the immune system to be able to withstand the rigors of career employment. My pursuits are now in the areas of hiking/photography/natural interests. I keep up to date on current affairs over the internet.I follow the latest on earthquake /natural disaster preparedness online also. School Having been deemed a genius at an extremely early age, I was terrified of being sent off to college with the 10 year olds being forced to go there. Eventually I did go to college, but after graduating just a year early, in my junior year of high school. College My first exposure to college was with thousands of other students in the mass lecture halls at the University of Colorado. I couldn't believe there were so many others with similar interests! There was a streaking craze on campus followed by a great flood. People were being sent into the battlefield in Vietnam and protests were daily ev...Expand for more
ents. It was a time to absorb the American Democratic culture, but not at all conducive to getting a degree. So when all the Computers refused to work in my smaller Psychology Labs, and I could not finish my required coursework; I decided to switch my major and finish at a later date. I took environmental coursework in Oregon where I was living with my husband; but picked up in Urban Planning at the University of Washington after residing in Seattle and having been divorced. I graduated in the program but they took my degree away at the last minute and changed it to just a liberal arts degree and then abolished the undergraduate program in Urban Planning. So I am left feeling like I don't have a degree really. I have the education, but not really the piece of paper I need to do anything with it. As a student intern with the City of Seattle Planning Dept., I spent one summer updating the University District Community Plan; including one proposal to limit the growth of the University of Washington in the University District of Seattle; and another to submit a grant to build a bus tunnel in downtown Seattle, therefore increasing bus service throughout the region. Workplace Has anyone ever written WORK IS HELL? I could make a little poem out of it here, but it would take more time than I am used to receiving on any of my jobs to complete any ONE TASK.
