Katrinka's Story

Life Who would have ever thought that starting out at Heiskell Elementary would be some of the most important times in our lives. I remember the peanut butter candy served in the cafeteria was the best ever. I can still close my eyes and taste it. I know now that being poor didn't matter then. Only now can I look back and know how poor we really were. I am thankful that back then no one ever made fun of me or the clothes I wore. Wish kids were more like that today. Being brought up poor made me try harder than ever to be better and more comfortable. I wanted to help my Mom and Dad so that they could have better things and an easier life. I was able to do just that. I started my own company when I was 21 yrs old and worked to much for the past 30 years. I sold my company in 1999, and still work to much. I am trying to work less and enjoy my life. Mrs. Shamblen and Mrs. Burnett were the best. Who ever thinks that what happens in the 1st and 2nd grade doesn't remain with them for the rest of their lives, must choose not to remember. I have made a lot of choices in my life to get me to where I am now. I still think that making choices is how God lets us be who we are, so don't make any of them lightly. When I made bad choices, I used them as learning experiences to created the life I have today. I never felt bad about t...Expand for more
hem. I miss Tennessee, left there in 1982, moved to Florida and still live here today. I love living in Florida, even though most of my family still lives in Tennessee. I visit at least a couple of times a year and try to keep up with as many people as I can. The hills of Tennessee are still beautiful to me but, my life seems more grounded in Florida. I never had any children, it was my choice to devote my life to working hard and getting in a position to relax and enjoy my senior years. Even though I am now past 50, I still feel like a kid at heart and still like to travel around and see this beautiful world that we live in. I like riding my motorcycle and feeling free. My older sisters, Kay and Janice, still live in Powell, and don't talk to them much anymore. My little brother Tim, is married with one child, Andrew, and him and his wife own Powell Florist. They all still live in Raccoon Valley, where we grew up on the farm. My younger sister, Alissa, moved to Florida also, and lives just two hours south of me. I see her and talk to her the most. I have been very blessed in my life and I still think a lot of that has to do with the years at Heiskell Elementary. Let me know what you think? Oh yea, the loves of my life, are all the rescue cats I have saved. If any of you need a wonderful cat give me a call.
