Kay's Story
After 20 years in Dallas, I flew to Germany on a 6 month lark with three suitcases and a dog. Wound up buying a business and staying near Heidelberg (Mannheim actually) for 15 years. Married in 2000 and
after almost 5 years, became a widow. I'm now back
in Austin, Texas, where both my children and 4 grandchildren live. Kind of like returning to a foreign
country after so long away. Lots of changes in 15 years.
Austin is such a laid-back town, all I really need to get by is a pair of jeans and T-shirt. Well, maybe we throw
on heels without hos...Expand for more
e, sometimes to dress up. People are friendly, so I've gotten involved with a German American group to keep up the language and stay involved with the European culture. I still go back to visit about every year as I left wonderful friends and neighbors behind. Classmates visited me in Germany and we traveled all over together. That hasn't stopped since I returned as we've gone to Canada, RP for the 50 year reunion, headed for Machu Picchu and California this year. May get to work in a trip to Croatia in the Fall. Lots to do and not enough time.
