Kay's Story
My greatest achievement since high school is becoming a mother to three wonderful children: a daughter, age 32 and two sons, ages 24 and 20. In 2011, I married Pastor Mike Raypholtz and I now live in Pioneer. I am a reporter for the Village Reporter, and I attend Defiance College part-time studying for a bachelor degree in social work.
From 2005 - 2009 I was working as a chemical dependency counselor in Defiance. This means that I was helping men, women and teens learn the skills to get off alcohol and drugs and stay sober. I facilitated 4 groups and did individual counseling as well. I really enjoyed my job, but was permanently laid off in February due to funding cuts and was jobless for 4 1/2 months. I then worked for 3 years as a residential service provider, for a profoundly handicapped teenage boy. I ended that job when I decided to go back to college.
My forties were some of the best years of my life. I got out of an emotionally abusive marriage, ended a dead end job, went back to college to earn a degree, and began a career doing what I had always wanted to do-be a counselor. Now I think that my 50s have been my best years!

Story Ideas:
1) What about me would surprise everyone at our high school reunion? Interesting story idea and question!
A) I traveled to Paris in 1999. It had always been my dream to visit the City of Lights, and my dream came true! I want to go back someday.
B) I date younger men. Most are in their 30s.
2) Which teacher would I love to see again? I would love to see my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Hill again. Sadly, she died about 3 years ago, but I did have the privilege of visiting with her a few months before she passed. I hugged her, held her hands, and thanked her for being such a wonderful teacher. What a great lady! Some of my other favorite teachers were: Lois Baughman and Chet Wasilowski.
3) Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. What has been my biggest surprise? When I graduated early and went off to college in Pennsylvania, I thought I had escaped Montpelier for good. Lo and behold, four years later I landed right back at home. I expected that I would venture out and move far away, yet here I am, still in Williams County after living in the Defiance area for 4 years.
