Kelly's Story

Life Military.... School Military.... Workplace Military... Military Command Sergeant Major Hunter joined the U.S. Army in April of 1982. After completing basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, she attended the Defense Language Institute for Basic German in Monterey, California. She then attended Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Goodfellow AFB, Texas, graduating in August 1983 as a 98C1O, Electronics Warfare/SIGINT Analyst. Her follow-on assignments include U.S. Army Field Station Augsburg, Germany and HHC, 104th MI Bn, 4 ID, Fort Carson, Colorado. In September 1986, CSM Hunter returned to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California for Intermediate German. From 1987-1991 she served as a Master Instructor for the 98C (35N) AIT Course. In 1991 she returned to Augsburg, Germany to serve as a Platoon Sergeant in the Army Europe Technical Control and Analysis Element. Additionally she served as NCOIC, S-3 Plans and Training, 204th MI Bn, 66th MI Bde. CSM Hunter returned to the East Coast in 1994, serving as a Senior Instructor and Course Manager at the National Cryptologic School, National Security Agency. From 1997 to 1999, she served as First Sergeant, 742d MI Bn, 704th MI Bde, Ft. Meade, MD. Seeking the most challenging job for a 98Z First Sergeant, CSM Hunter served as First Sergeant, HHOC, 102d MI Bn, 2 ID, Korea. In May 2000, CSM Hunter arrived at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. As a member of A Co, 306th MI Bn, CSM Hunter served as Sergeant Major, Futures Development & Integration Center. In October 2001, CSM Hunter moved to the U.S.Army Intelligence Center & Fort Huachuca Noncommissioned Officers Academy to serve as First Sergeant and Deputy Commandant. CSM Hunt...Expand for more
er served as Command Sergeant Major for the Menwith Hill Military Intelligence Battalion (PROV), at Royal Air Force Base, Menwith Hill, Harrogate, United Kingdom from August 2004 to November 2006. She then moved back to the United States to serve as Command Sergeant Major for the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Meade, Maryland. CSM Hunter retired 1 January 2010. CSM Hunter's military education includes: 98C1O Electronic Warfare/Signals Intelligence Analyst, Basic and Intermediate German Courses, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Instructor Training Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Cryptologic Skills for Noncommissioned Officers, and the First Sergeant Course. CSM Hunter is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 54. She has an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Intelligence Operations through Cochise College and completed the requirements for her Bachelors Degree in Administration Management and Foreign Language through Excelsior College. CSM Hunter plans to pursue her Masters Degree majoring in Psychology. CSM Hunter's military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (6 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4), Overseas Service Ribbon (3),the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the German Armed Forces Marksmanship Proficiency Badge in Bronze, and is a recipient of the Military Intelligence Corps Association Knowlton Award.
