Kelly's Story
Life
Hi everyone. I left CC in 1986 after getting married to Scott, who was from Long Beach. We moved to Norfolk VA for no reason other than it was the furthest straight line place away from CC. Stayed there and Virginia Beach for a couple of years and then headed to Florida. We lived in Bradenton for 3 years while Scott finished school at USF and passed the CPA exam. He got hired to work in Jacksonville so we moved there, where I finished my undergrad in criminal justice, got a master's degree in Public Administration at UNF and had our son Alex in 1994. Moved to Tallahassee in 1996 so I could take a job as the Exec. Director of the local domestic violence/rape crisis center. We've been here ever since.
Had our daughter Samantha in 2000 - she's now in 7th grade & Alex is heading off to college this Fall!.I have enjoyed 25 years working as an advocate for women & girls and currently work as the Exec. Director of the PACE Center for Girls. Scott is an Associate Director and CFO at FSU's Health Center but is a gigantic UF Gator fan.
I do a lot of volunteer work and love spending great time with my family and my wonderful friends. I still think of Carson as my hometown although I've lived here much longer now.
I miss the west coast -- being in the South is a very different culture -- not a bad one, just different. I hate alligators, bugs and hurricanes but love sweet tea, southern accents and the Gulf of Mexico. My brother Cam still lives in CC; my sister Shannon is in Elko and my Dad in CA. My mom died in 1994 and I still miss her.

CC although I don't get to see them very often. As I get older I have a stronger drive to reconnect with that time in my life -- I find myself reaching out to people who I have wondered about over the years. That led me to actually put some photos and things on this site -- so far already 6 old CCHS friends have contacted me this way and it's been great fun to hear what they have been up to. I think the more comfortable I have become that I turned out ok I'm less worried about dealing with people from that time in my life who saw me making some terrible mistakes. I guess that's why everyone tells us that our 40s and 50s are the best decades -- because it's true for me that I care less about bullsh--. And the best part of that is that it allows me to remember the really good times and appreciate how much fun we all had. Sour cream & water fights at Taco Bell; parties at the river; cruising; ROTC; basketball & football games; YCC & YACC; Mr. Beirman asking Carol and I at a basketball game why our eyes were so red; working at Dairy Queen; going into Safeway with Misty & Carol to buy cigarettes as we all decided at the same time that we should smoke (stupid! -- took me 12 years to quit!); getting Jill to buy us beer; AMETHYST; partying with Bob Smith & Brad Rhodes; fast cars; babysitting across the street from Bobby Martin; fake IDs; softball; waterskiing at Lahontan; keggers; powderpuff football; the smell from the chemistry lab; graduation....and so on and so on. The not so fun stuff just doesn't seem very relevant anymore.
Take care --- Kelly (Troop) Otte
