Ken's Story
Life
Lesley and I live in a suburb of Columbus Ohio. Our daughter, Jennifer, teaches ESL (English as a 2nd Language) at a middle school in the area and is married to Chuck Wieand who works at CheckFree with me. Our son, Jeff, is a Freshman at Wheaton College (IL) majoring in piano performance.
I work for CheckFree Corporation, soon to part of FiServ Corporation. Most of the large banks in the country offer our service through their web banking sites. My particular responsibilities include our Patent program.
I am currently enrolled at Capital University Law School in their evening program. Most of my fellow students are young enough to be my children!
We are members of Linworth Baptist Church here and we love it.
We spent 13 years in New Hampshire before moving to Ohio. Both children were born there. I worked for Digital Equipment Corporation and we were very active members of Trinity Baptist Church.
I grew up in the Churchland area of Portsmouth Virginia -specifically the Edgefield subdivision.
We lived briefly (1993-1994) in the Dayton, Ohio area where I worked for Lexis-Nexis. There we were members of Fairhaven Church in Washington Township.
School
Churchland High Memories: Debate team (with Jeff Tarkenton, John Rayfield, Marianne Surrells, Thomasine Powell) including getting crushed by Butch Maltby of Warwick! Chess team and grammar + fly catching lessons with Mr. Holbrook. Botching a major science project but still being forgiven by Mrs. Perkins. B...Expand for more
eing continually challenged by Mr. Mancuso. Being forced by Mr. Moore (our Latin teacher) to hold a pencil in my teeth so I wouldn't blurt out the answers to questions. Debates with Mr. Jankowski on everything under the sun (Christianity, American history, etc) -- usually Thomasine and I against him.
College
Graduated from Wheaton College (IL) with a B.A. in psychology, a major I've never really used.
Realistically the most beneficial courses at Wheaton turned out to be the Bible & Christian Ed courses I took which prepared me well for lay ministry in churches and the workplace over the years.
The other tremendous benefit of Wheaton has been life-long friendships and great connections across the Evangelical world.
Following Wheaton I attended Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY. The primary benefit of that 11/2 years was meeting my wife, Lesley.
Now I'm in school again at Capital University Law School (evening program). I love it, but find it far more challenging than any school experience in the past. Plus all the students are young enough to be my children (in fact most are younger than my oldest)
Workplace
Currently, I am Vice President of Intellectual Property at CheckFree Corporation. That basically involves managing our patent group within the Legal department. We have a WONDERFUL group (4 of us) that are all friends as well as work colleagues. Because we've worked together so long we can get stuff done very efficiently while having fun doing it.
