Kenneth's Story
Well, I lived in El Paso until I was 13 and graduated from St. Joseph in 1968.
I have many fond memories of the school, the nuns, and many friends, although I've lost touch with all of them. I lost touch eventually with everyone in El Paso except for a few family members. I'd love to rekindle some of those old friendships.
I spent a few months at Jesuit High before leaving El Paso, I had a small scholarship from St. Joseph's to attend Jesuit. I loved the school and the people I met there and I still miss it and rue the day of its demise. I played on the frosh football team and was on the debate team.
After leaving EP I lived in Connecticut for a few months and moved to California in late 1969. I went to 4 different high schools and I was always the "new kid' in school back then. It was a trying time with so much change.
I ended up at Servite High School, A Catholic boys prep school which is a state and national powerhouse in athletics. I played football, I was on the track team, and the debate team, and I was president of the school service club, "The Guild". I had a lot of fun, and made some lifelong friends.
I went on to college at Loyola University in Los Angeles and studied pre-med. I have a degree in Biology but wasn't willing to make the sacrifice to go on to medical school.
In college I rowed on the crew team my freshman year, a grueling sport. I discovered Rugby in my junior year and played on two college champion teams, though I was not a big-time player.
I played division I amateur Rugby until I was 35 and "Old Boys" Rugby until I was 45 and I ...Expand for more
still play on occasion today.
Just after college, I became director of a free clinic in a barrio of Orange County Ca and from there I went on to work in clinical planning and management for the Dean of the College of Medicine at the UCI College of Medicine.
I left the public sector in 1985 to make my fortune in the just blooming computer industry. After a couple of close tries with start-ups, I went to work for Sony where I worked in the IT division for many years. I took an early retirement from Sony in 2009 and I am still in IT and doing entrepreneurial work today.
I was in my first marriage for 17 years. I divorced and have one child, a daughter 14, who is an honor student, an actress, and who wants to attend Stanford. She's the joy of my life and a dream-kid.
I am now remarried and live in the San Diego area. I live just 5 minutes from the beach and I have to say, I have an amazing, blessed life with a beautiful and loving new wife.
I stay connected with high school and college friends and with my family who all live nearby. I see my parents about once a week.
I am involved with local charities, my parish;Mission San Luis Rey,one of the Calif missions and I enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, the beach, boxing and weight-lifting. I'm a Chargers, Padres, Angels, Dodgers, Lakers fan. I recently took up surfing after a thirty year hiatus, golf, reading and the History and Discovery Channels. I like good wine, a cold Stella Artois on a hot day, good music, live music, good Irish pubs, a good joke, poker once a month, and the company of good and loved people.
