Kenny's Story

KJP Summary I'm 47, have 2 great boys 14 and 16, became a chemical engineer and went to work for Chevron and 24 years later am still there and like my job, get to travel a lot, divorced twice, and just got married for the 3rd (and final) time to a great and wonderful woman. The only bad part is that she still lives in Chile and I in California. We filed for her permanent visa as my spouse and think that she can be here ~September. If patience build character, then I'm going to be a huge character when all is said and done. Really, it sucks, but worth it, she is wonderful and even with only small time with her as we can, my life is much richer with her. Just found out I will be traveling next week and be able to have 3 days together! Love to travel, listen to music, staying healthy and enjoying life. Like to be social. I am creative and inventive. Details my boys: Both boys had started playing trumpet (like me) but unfortunately their music teachers and bands really suck and they got discouraged and both quit a few years ago. I'd give a lot for a Mr. Kulhman or Mr. Anderson for their schools!!!! Jake is my oldest and a junior now. Jake has been playing electric guitar and got pretty good, but doesn't play much now. He likes video games and football and hanging out with his friends and now has a girlfriend. He is now playing Varsity football at his school. He caught a pass in the end zone for the only touchdown of his last game last year on JV - Dad was real proud!! Cyrus is my youngest and a freshman in high school now. Cyrus is playing drums and has for just over a year and is also improving a lot and really seems to like it. He likes video games and scootering and is very social. He has become my gym buddy and we work out as often as I can make the time. I'm guessing I should start learning the bass and then we can form our own power trio and go on tour like Rush or Triumph - too bad we aren't Canadian, eh? education: Loved being in school, but once graduated with my BSChE, didn't want to go back for anything serious, so since then have only taken spanish and volleyball. career: Only actually did ~5 years of real engineering work, ~ 1 of HR, ~4 of environmental, and over 14 in current marketing-type world, but all for Chevron (big oil). Really like my job and even if I win the lottery, might still work part time. personal travel: Born in Brazil, but moved to US as a baby (obviously not by myself). Grew up in Michigan 'til I was 10 and during that time we only went around Mich or just into Ontario or Ohio. Move to CA was cool, got to see rest of country and the dry west (which I love) and the mountains. In college, went to France for one summer and that was really cool (my first time on a plane (I don't count coming from Brazil since I was a baby)). That started my lust for travel. Since then have personally vacationed in Europe once, Brazil four times, Caribbean cruise twice, Mexico 5 or 6 times, Australia once, Hawaii twice, Chile once, Peru once and all over the continental US. business travel: First 4 years with Chevron (CVX) only traveled to San Jose (1 hour drive). Then in my recruiting (HR) job, got to travel to Houston (to recruit at Rice) and also to New Orleans (got to take a helicopter to an offshore platform). Got few more trips to Houston before current job. In current job, have traveled (some multiple times per year, some only once) to: Canada - [Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal], US - [Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago, Atlanta, Florida (Miami and Orlando), Pascagoula (Mississippi), Louisiana (New Orleans, Shreveport and Lake Charles), Texas (Port Arthur, Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso and Amarillo), Oklahoma (Ponca City via Wichita, Kansas), Phoenix, California (San Diego, LA and Bakersfield), Salt Lake City, New Jersey and Alabama], Mexico City and Leon Mexico, Panama City, Colombia [Bogota, Cartagena and Barrancabermeja], 3 places in Venezuela, Lima Peru, Chile [Santiago, Vina del Mar and Concepcion], Buenos Aires Argentina, Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Bolivia [Santa Cruz and La Paz], Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Japan (Tokyo, Mizushima and Chiba), Shainghai China, Bangkok Thailand, South Korea and The Hague Netherlands. Even if I am only in a place 1 or 2 days, I still try to absorb as much of it as I can and love the opportunity to travel wit...Expand for more
hout having to pay for myself, and I rack up lots of frequent flyer miles and hotel points to supplement my (or my ex-wife and boy's) personal travel. Relationships: Kristen was my first wife, we met while in college and got married right after I graduated. Were married for ~3.5 years and then separated and divorced. No kids with her. Mary was my second wife and we met in SF where we both were living. Were married almost 14 years and then separated and divorced. We have two wonderful boys who live with her and I get them every other weekend and see them 2 or 3 times each week for dinner if I'm not traveling. Dang was my first girlfriend post-Mary and we met just after Mary and I split up. While my ex-wives were American caucasians, Dang is from Thailand, but lives in Houston. She is a wonderful woman. Eventually she broke up with me but we are still friends!! I now have a wonderful wife named Valeni. She is Peruvian, but lives in Chile. What is it with me and distances? She is really incredible and my beautiful Princess. I do think we are very well suited and so happy we finally are married and can't wait to get her finally here. Also, she doesn't really speak english, so I am learning much more spanish. I am extremely happy with her, but the distance thing sucks. Music: I have always like music. Began trumpet in 5th grade and played into my 3rd year in college and music was the center of my high school life (most of my best friends were other trumpet players). Also in high school began my love of rock and hard rock music and in college fell into heavy metal and these loves continue today. Really loved playing music and still love seeing live music - I think music is a pure and wonderful gift and should be enjoyed as much as possible and this is a lesson I keep trying to remember as my life is really very busy and complicated. One of my best life experiences was father's day 2010 - I took my boys to see Iron Maiden in Concord (close to where I live)!! It was a great concert (they are my favorite band) and it was my first concert with my boys and we all had a great time!!! In late spring I went with my boys to see Godsmack and Disturbed and then a few months later Dokken. This last fall took my youngest to see Judas Priest. All very good. Being healthy: My goal is to live to be 120 and to be active the whole time. I was always in reasonably good shape, but as I approached 40, I realized I had no intentions of being half way done with my life and so set my sights higher and cleaned up my diet alot and got more disciplined at the gym. I probably average about 3 times/wk, but if I could, I'd go every day and really like it. I am healthier and stronger than I have been for most of my life and that feels good at 47. I have good genetics on my side also - a few years ago I saw my Uncle who was 90 and in great shape, although he takes the elevator up, he walks down 5 flights of stairs a few times each day from his apartment to the lobby/dining area of his complex! My mom turns 90 in October and is doing well. Just recently read an article about the results of a Danish study of 20,000 people over 17 years and they found that those who ran between 1 and 2.5 hours/week lived about 6 years longer on average. So, I just started running again. Got my second blood work done in 2 years and saw a very good improvement in LDL cholesterol and due to eating more oatmeal (every day when in my office). Oats are a very good friend and can add years to your life!!!!!! Enjoying life and socialness: I hate being alone. It is OK now and then, but I prefer being around people and like to talk to them. I can speak decent spanish and portugese and so it makes my travels to Latin America more fun. Tried to learn some Thai and Japanese, but they are way tougher than latin languages for me. Creative and inventive: I have several creative wild hairs that I keep slowly rolling along. I am ~90 pages into writing a novel, but this has taken 15 years and maybe why I need to live so long if I ever want to finish. I have several other creative ideas, but the main one is for an invention and I'm proud to say that after thinking about it for over 3 years, I finally started taking action and a few years ago met with a company who I hoped would help patent and commercialize it and make me rich! Didn't work out and so still slowly looking around.
