Kimberly's Story
Life
My bio? Wow, it could be a mini-series!
After LHS, there was VCC - obtained an Assoc in CJ. I took an entry position with OCSD, then went to the academy and off to "the road" as a deputy. In 1977, I got married and was a 'Bogan' [for awhile]. He and I finished our Bachelors in CJ at Rollins. In 1985, we adopted a son from Korea, Jared (who is now 24, at OSU). In an attempt to "start over" we moved to the Atlanta area in 1987 - eventually relocating to NE Ga mountains. We established a business as self-emp PI's for awhile. In 1996, he decided to move on to my [widowed] alleged best friend.
Little did I know the actual FAVOR "they" did for me - tough to realize when you're devastated! The whirlwind of D-I-V-O-R-C-E is everything it's said to be! Displacement and the "empties" were difficult, although starting over with a "new" life has been a blessing! I ended up back in Florida...started the RN program at FL Hosp, however, never finished.
During my 'berievement' time, I met a 'pen-pal' online who soon became a long distance relationship, which evolved to a romance. Robert and I married in Nov '97, and I relocated to Cleveland. Within a couple months, I got a job at Univ Hosp of Cleveland [renamed Univ Hospitals Case Medical Center] and have worked my way up to Safety Manager. I love my job, it involves using much of my background and personality. In follo...Expand for more
wing the suggestion of my boss, I just completed my Master's in Management (Dec '08) to prepare to take over her position upon her retirement.
Robert and I decided since it was his first marriage [no kids] that we would try out "foster care." Dec 2008 will mark 7 years of fostering, and we have had 11 babies/children come through our home - everything from a 4 day old to (3) sets of siblings. The 'photo' listed on my profile shows HannaRose - nickname "Spud" - who we got at approx 6mo, and were able to adopt her Nov '05 (she's now 6y). This IS a challenge, as the County + social workers aren't always sensitive to situations. We have plenty of room, 3-story house, basement, etc. and it's nice (most of the time) to have 'activity' in the home.
My parents seem to think that my life has basically gone in reverse... I had a "career" job, then adopted a child, now when all my peers are retiring, I have another "career" job, more kids and another degree!!! I've been told that 50 is the new 40 and so on... Well, that means I'm still holding on to 39!
If you read your way to the end of this BIO, I hope it has enlightened you on how others' lives take many twists and turns - and perhaps your life doesn't appear as tumultuous now that you have read about mine!
If you want to add "life" back to yours - try foster care, it is rewarding!
