Kimberly's Story
Life
Often referred to as a "late bloomer" I have been pursuing my architecture career since college, but finally accepted a proposal to marry in 1995. I gave birth to my only child, our daughter, in 2002. Now I am in the process of an amicable divorce and continue to be "best friends" with my soon to be "x". I work long hours and enjoy my interaction with clients, contractors and consultants. My happy and healthy 21/2 year old fills the rest of my hours with great joy. She travels with me constantly and has probably been to more construction sites than anyone else who is not an active part of the construction industry. I have been living in Mobile, AL for the last year, working for a large, regional architecture/engineering firm that does a variety of commercial, educational and military projects. sion, as preservation architect and loved it for thirteen years. To keep the preservation aspect going, my husband and I completely restored an 1868 Italianate house in downtown Mobile, starting it in 1999 and still going (i.e. there are still things that need to be done!). Unfortunately, the house will have to be sold as a part of the divorce, but I am already on the lookout for another "house redo project". I continue to play the violin, although not as much as I want to. I joined the Bay Area Strings last year in Mobile, after having played with the Montgomery Symphony off and on since it started in 1976. I hope to start my daughter on some music training early next year. She already dances to all types of music and sits at the piano playing notes and making up melodies to sing. This motherhood job is really a new one for me, but one I am so blessed to have.
