Kimberly's Story
I am now a Benedictine Sister of St. Scholastica Monastery, located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
I grew up in Park Forest, Illinois, and attended Wildwood, Westwood* (only in 3rd-grade*) back to Wildwood elementary schools, and graduated from Wildwood in 6th grade. Following that time, I went to St. Mary's Catholic School. Entering high school, I attended Rich East (Go Rockets!) from 1978-79, and then my family moved from Park Forest to North Central Arkansas. I went to Mountain Home High School from 1980 until graduating in 1982. I was a student in various colleges in Arkansas, University of Arkansas State, University of Central Arkansas, University of Arkansas, and ultimately completed my degree at Dominican University, River Forest, IL. I have some postgraduate work in Psychology from John Brown University.
I entered St. Scholastica Monastery, Fort Smith, Arkansas, in 1990 at the age of 25. I have worked in various ministries as a Benedictine Sister. I have worked as Director of Youth Ministry, Education/Teaching, Campus Ministry for UA Fort Smith, Hispanic and Prison Ministry.

e been the Director of Vocations for the monastery since 2002 and still work in that ministry walking with young women who have a desire to seek God in a vocational call to religious life.
In 2011-12 I was asked by our Prioress to serve as Subprioress for the community. (Incorporate terms I was the Vice President) And I was in this role until June 8, 2019; This position will conclude when the prioress elect is installed. We have an election in January 2020.
Our monastery has been in Arkansas for 140 years, and we have 32 Sisters and a novice in the community. We have an affiliate who will enter as a postulant in December; We are in the process of building a new monastery that is better suited for our sister's needs. The former monastery is well over 90 years old, and although lovely and our monastic home, it is quite costly to maintain. Currently, I serve my monastic community in the role of Administrator. This role is the same as the Prioress but one that is appointed rather than an elected position. I hope to reconnect and welcome hearing from old friends and yes, endearing my self to new ones too!
