Kirk's Story
Life
I started my life in Baltimore, Maryland, where I was born in 1952. I lived in Severna Park, Maryland (just south of Baltimore) till I was 7. After living for a short time in two suburbs of Washington, D.C. (Kentland and Bladensburg), we (my older brother Harry III, older sister Jill, mother Doris and father Harry Jr.) moved to a rental house on Cresse Avenue in Wildwood Crest when I was 8 (1961). I entered Miss Twiford's 3rd grade class at Philip Baker School. In 1962 we moved to a ranch house across from Sunset Lake. I graduated from Philip Baker School in 1966, then went on to Wildwood High School. Unfortunately, my mother died of breast cancer in the summer of 1969. Since my parents had separated in 1965 I had to move out to western PA (Franklin) to finish high school there, while living with my sister and her husband. ng on Burk Avenue for a couple of years before getting an apartment on Toledo Avenue in the Crest. I worked for many years as a graphic artist for Leader Printers in the Crest. I met my future wife Sally (who lived in Somers Point) on a blind date in 1987, and we got married in March of 1989. We've lived in a 4 bedroom ranch house in Somers Point since then (no children), and now I do graphic design and proofreading for two local TV magazines out of Margate. In 2004 I realized a long-held goal when my first novel was published: "The Fury of Achilles", an historical adventure novel. I have since written two other books (not published yet), and just published (2007) "Doo Wop Motels: Architectural Treasures Of The Wildwoods" (available on Amazon.com), about the 1950s and 1960s motels in Wildwood that I grew up with. I have been the President of the Wildwood Crest Historical Society since 1995, and am a contributing board member of the Doo Wop Preservation League in Wildwood.
