Knute's Story

This is an updated story as of February 1, 2022. A story of me would be nothing more than a footnote if I didn't include photos and the story of my life with Kathleen. She was, without a doubt, a Messenger from God who "firmly" entered my life in our Senior year at Cape May High School in September 1956. Since September of 1953, I had just moved to Cape May and started my Freshman year in CMHS in Mr. Shill's homeroom. On the first day of school, that "fateful" day lol I saw Kathleen for the first time when she got up to read a verse from the Bible, I was overwhelmed by her sheer beauty. As a skinny, pimply-faced 13-year-old boy, I was determined never to let her see me. I succeeded to a large degree for the six semesters prior to our Senior year. By then, I had improved my appearance, somewhat, especially after being a lifeguard for the first time on the beach and getting a super tan with my hair turning white, and she evidently noticed. Magee McCoy, our mutual close friend, came to me during the first week of that school year and told me that Kathleen asked her to ask me to call her to ask her out. I was dumbstruck. It took two weeks for me to get the nerve to call her. I told her that I was still 16 with no driver's license or car. She said that she had gotten her license that previous month and she could use her mother's car to pick me up! (So began the "older woman" saga.) lol From that date on a Tuesday, September 25, 1956, we were never out of each other's minds, hearts, and reach. (I mention 9/25/56 as our first date because, as incredible as it may seem, she passed away 48 years later, as my wife of 44 years, on September 25, 2004. She and I made four children, together, who created three fantastic grandsons - with the two oldest being #1 in their undergraduate classes, the oldest (David) of whom Kathleen and I raised, was Magnum Cum Laude with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University, the second oldest grandson, Christ...Expand for more
ian, working as a specialized barber, catering to the younger crowd who want bizarre, artistic designs of their hair and are willing to pay a high price for them, will be graduating from a four-year course in Computer Sciences and the third grandson, Nathan, being a prodigy with the piano, playing classical music since the age of 4 and receiving a scholarship to Julliard in New York City and the equivalent school here in Los Angeles, where he goes each Sunday for classes. Also, at the age of 9, being in the 4th grade, is #1 in his 12th-grade computer Application Design and Programming class at a school for gifted children. We also were blessed with two great-grandsons who appear to be on the same flight path as the three grandsons. I give Kathleen with her DNA all the credit for having such a group of miracle children as her progeny. I'm retired, now, living with my son, Kurt, and his amazing wife Lorelli who is also my official caregiver. I'm being restored to the healthy person I was 60 years ago. lol I've had a very exciting, challenging life and wasn't taking care of my health as I should have. It took a "slip and fall" accident when my son, Kurt, called me on behalf of his wife and him, to snatch me away from a dismal life in Washington State and move to the lush City of the Angels. He and his wife have diligently arranged an array of health coverage plans to get me back to a healthy condition. I had my hip replaced five weeks ago and am now pursuing appointments with an opthalmologist, audible doctor, dentists, and doctors who will be examining all of my "age" issues that I ignored working 14 hour days working for several high tech companies, traveling halfway around the world in the 60's and in my own business for the last 30 years. So, by the time we have another class reunion, I should be in great shape - in case any of you want to play a game of baseball. lol Please let me know who is left from our class - alive, and hopefully, still kicking.
