Kristi's Story
Life
The condensed version of my life: Married for 32 years. Single for the past 3 years. Have lived in Dayton, OH; Grand Island, NE; Broomfield, CO; Sioux Falls; Brookings, SD; Minneapolis, MN; Omaha, NE; Estherville, IA; Forest City, IA and now Mason City, IA. My happiest years were the 16 years I spent as a full-time, stay-at-home Mom raising 6 extraordinary children who have grown into 6 extraordinary adults. My work-outside-the-home has been in a variety of nursing positions, including public health, instruction at a State University, clinic and hospital positions, and currently just switched from Infection Control Practitioner to ER nurse. I love my job and my life. My kids are spread all over the country, but 2 of them work for major airlines, so I am able to fly "for free" to visit them whenever I want to. Have 4 adorable grandchildren who all live within 40 miles of me, which gives me plenty of opportunity for grandma time. Favorite way to spend vacation time is traveling by plane or road tripping. Favorite place to go is Rocky Mountain National Park hiking. My goal is to spend one-on-one time with each of my kids and grandkids there. All in all, my life so far has been at ti...Expand for more
mes very difficult, mostly due to marrying at 18 a man who taught me the definition of Difficult. But I learned a lot about life and people, and came out of it a wiser and more compassionate and appreciative person. I feel very blessed, and thank God, above all, for loving me and standing by me in spite of my unwise choices. My freetime is spent connecting with the kids and grandkids and Mom and my brothers and sister, reading good books, watching my favorite TV shows, going for long walks, cooking, dancing (mostly in the kitchen) to good music and doing tae-bo. Have been blessed with good health and don't begin to feel my age (most days). Have recently moved my Mom, who has Alzheimer's, to a nursing home nearby. My philosophy on life is this: accept the fact that it is inevitable you are going to make some mistakes along the way, but you are stupid not to learn from them; do your best to keep on the right path; forgive, forgive, forgive; be thankful; worship the very One who gives you Life; keep a good sense of humor, because there really are some incredibly funny and ironic things about life, and people can be such characters; and love, love, love. I guess that's it in a nutshell...
