Kristin/Zivanka's Story

Life Well I've been living in Manitowoc since graduating from OCHS in January of 2005. My mom still refuses to help me pay for college so even though I've gotten into a couple top design schools from New York to San Francisco, I think it's a dream that's destined to die. Speaking of death, my Grandma Ann who I was always very close to died 2 months after I graduated. I don't mean to sound depressing, but it's definately had an impact on me and I think it's important not to let other people forget that her life mattered. I'd like to brag about a major milestone in my life as well. Though I believe it is impossible to ever truly "recover" from an eating disorder, I would just like the world to know that I have not purged a meal in 29 months now. I'm sure there are a lot of eyes rolling at that statement, but the difference between high school Kristin and Kristin now is that I don't care. I know how hard I've worked to overcome that obstacle, and I'm proud. Moving on, I currently attend the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc campus and I'm majoring in Political Science but I'm starting to think I might change that to History with a minor in English or possibly even a Visual Arts major. I intend to transfer to Milwaukee (or maybe Green Bay because I might miss my horse) after next year, and I hope to get into Marquette Law School after finishing my bachelors degree. I see two possible paths -I either want to practice Family Law and go after deadbeat parents for failure to pay child support (you may remember, I have a father that never paid) or I'd like to go into Corporate Law and use that as my "in" in the fashion industry in New York. My mom ran off to California with a creep she met on the internet and left me to take care of her house and raise her other child. I actually had to leave school last semester to work enough to cover bills, but I'm back on track now. I'm still involved with my figure skating, though not as much as I would like, but then again, we're in college, who has the TIME? Although the Manitowoc Country Figure Skating Club has asked me to coach on a few occasions and if I can work it into my schedule I'd LOVE it ...hey, it's $40 AN HOUR!!!! That trumps what they're paying me at Menards. Anyway, I've taken up a new sport these days as well. My sister's friend gave her a horse (an Arabian gelding named MHR Ive Arrived or "Leon") this past fall because she got a new horse and couldn't afford to keep two. Somehow I got hooked and I just purchased a beautiful but very SASSY 11-year-o...Expand for more
ld American Saddlebred mare who is very appropriately named Ledgewind's Sassy Sal (AKA "Dixie") I ride Saddleseat which is an English style of riding that's growing in popularity. It was developed on plantations in Kentucky in the 1800s by the same people who originally bred the American Saddlebred. It's really pretty because the horse holds it's head up and steps really high. It's also really challenging --in Saddleseat you have to hold TWO sets of reins because their are TWO bits to work in the horse's mouth. Dixie and I just had our first horse show recently in which we did quite well. We got a 3rd in our Walk/Trot Patterns class (my fault -if I'd come up on the correct diagonal, we would have won) as well as a 3rd in our Walk/Trot Pleasure (Dixie's fault -"Pleasure" is judged on the horse and she TROTTED when the judge asked for a walk!) and we got a 1st Place in our Equitation class! I deserve the credit there because Equitation is judged soley on the rider, but Dixie got plenty of treats afterwards, trust me. Many people I work with seem very interested in my love life [or lack of one] these days. I was briefly involved with someone this past fall but I'd prefer to forget about it. I guess I'd like to be in a relationship if the right person came along, but between school, work, skating, riding and raising my mom's kid, when would I even fit somebody else into my schedule? School I made the Dean's List while hardly even trying. I guess that means if I apply myself this semester I could be close to a 4.0. Still, I hate my major (Poli Sci/Pre-Law) and nothing else interests me other than fashion. That's probably why it's August 1 and I still haven't even applied for my student loan or began looking for books. If it weren't for Dixie, I probably wouldn't even wake up most days. College I currently am attending classes at The University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc and majoring in Political Science. I'm considering changing my major to History with a minor in English although I'm also toying with the idea of a Visual Arts major. I plan to transfer to UW-Milwaukee after next year and finish my bachelors degree. I hate it here in Manitowoc, but I might end up at UW-GB because it's only 30 minutes away, and if I moved to Milwaukee I'd only be able to see my horse 2-3 days a week tops and that might kill me. After that, I want to go on hopefully to Marquette Law School. I still ultimately plan to work in the fashion industry however. It's the only thing that really stirs my passion and keeps me focused.
