Kyle's Story
Moved from Columbus to Sarasota during high school, leaving St. Charles for Cardinal Mooney. Spent two years at Mooney, attending summer program at USF (Tampa) before senior year. After high school, attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Majored in electrical engineering. Worked at Florida Power and Light as a co-op during college, spending time in Sarasota, Miami, and at Turkey Point. Upon graduation, went to work at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Maryland. Lots of pentagon work for the Navy. Got a masters degree in numerical science from Hopkins. Philosophical issues drove me back to school full time, this time at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Electrical engineering again. to Planet Earth working with several NASA scientists. After getting the PhD, started work as a scientist at NASA JPL in Pasadena. Worked there full time for 20 years on numerous earth science related efforts. In 2011, joined the faculty at the City College of New York, where I teach earth science related things to science and engineering students. Now doing research in food security, water resources, terrestrial ecosystems, coral habitats, cryosphere, and biodiversity in the Amazon and Brazil's coastal forest.
Married in 1983. Have three daughters, spread over 13 years, all living very interesting lives.
