Lance's Story
For me school was entertaining. I wasn't really there learning but instead I was in awe of what was going on around me. There was so much happening that I was too busy watching, to do anything myself. The kids the teachers, councilors, activities, pretty girls, wild kids - I was amazed. If you saw me and wondered what I was doing - I was "looking" at the entire show - probably with my mouth open. lol I don't know what others thought of me - probably considered me shy or dorky - who knows. But that's what was going on in my world. I loved everybody and still miss the experience. If I could go back in time I would go back in an instant just to see all of you again. I gravitated towards the surfer crowd even though I didn't hang out with them. They were the "cool" kids to me...Expand for more
. I was on the Swim Team for two years but I really liked baseball, football and basketball more. The swim team was a great team and I outgrew my asthma by swimming on that team. I wanted to letter in sports more than anything but didn't stick with it long enough to get one. In my senior year I finally became more active socially and at that point, completely, and without foresight of the outcome, dropped interest in studying. As a result had to attend summer school to graduate and ended up missing the senior prom and graduation because of it. That to me was a disaster. I guess the lesson was that to do well in school you have to take an interest in what you are studying and I was more interested in others than my own career. I would have got an "A" in that if it were a class.
