Larry's Story

Life So...if I'm going to be on Classmates, I probably should populate my profile with at least some information that may be of slight interest to anyone kind enough to look me up. With that in mind, here is a much abbreviated version of my life over the past 15 or so years. . . Shortly after graduating from SUNY Albany in 1992, with a combined degree in English Education (I was actually a high school English teacher - how do you like me now Mrs. Taber?) I moved to Rochester, NY where Jennifer Russell, now Jennifer Chomicki, and I were engaged. Once Jen graduated in 1993, we moved to Annandale, VA, planned a wedding and, more than a year later, we were married at Our Lady of the Snow in Blue Point, NY (sorry St. Lawrence, for those of you who are from Sayville). The next decade seemed to fly by as I changed jobs several times from a Membership Manager, then Director, of two not-for-profit associations, to Director of Sales and Marketing for a software company, to a change management and strategy consultant at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) for several years in their Communications and High Tech area, to my current position as the Director of Strategic Alliances for ICMA-RC, a financial services firm serving the public sector, where I build relationships externally with companies and organizations that may offer products or services that could augment ICMA-RC's, and I internally manage cross-divisional projects, product launches, and strategic planning, among other things. During that block of time, I went back to school and earned an MBA, and then became certified in project management....Expand for more
Because of that I can call myself a Project Management Professional or PMP. . . yes that's really the designation; nice huh?! Several other major milestones occurred along the way as well. We moved out of Annandale, VA a year or more after getting married and bought a house in Bristow, VA where we lived for 5 years, and then sold it and moved closer in to Washington, DC. We've lived in Burke, VA for the last 6+ years and, as many people do, we started a family. Connor Lawrence, who is now 4 1/2, and Aidan Christopher, who is 20 months old, are the two most handsome, intelligent, sweet, boys a father could ever hope for (although I might be considered somewhat biased, I think you would agree if you met them)! Most of my time is spent with my family, as Connor has started T-Ball and Aidan enjoys tackling me whenever I walk through the door, (hmmm, baseball...football; like many fathers, I'm already dreaming of scholarships and signing bonuses, because Daddy would like to retire early). Although, if I do steal some time for myself I enjoy weight training, practicing martial arts (I had earned my black belt in Isshinryu karate while I was in college, which now feels like a lifetime ago), or just relaxing in front of the television and watching something like Lost or Heroes or UFC. I'm now beginning to realize how much room 4,000 characters really is in this little box, so I'll end this diatribe hoping anyone who took the time to read all this is doing well and encourage you to send me an email if this didn't fully satisfy your curiosity or would like to share what you have been doing with me.
