Laura's Story
Life
I have one grown daughter, nicole Gatewood 25 and two minor children at home Tiffany 15 and Tyler 12. I currently live in Westwood,Ca which is about 1 block from Beverly Hills,Ca and 1 mile from Brentwood(O.J Simpson).I am currently not working I draw a pension from the U.S military,l I'm a 100% service connected Veteran.Very good pay.. I miss the south very much. But not enough to move back. I have a lot of travel planned outside of the U.S in just a few years and looking forward to traveling. Hope to hear from y'all soon.!Well just to update I was approved for my V.A home loan through Bank of America and looks like I've decided to buy in the Palm Springs Area. Very nice ,a lot smaller than the Los Angeles area , very small in comparison , but not to small . Palms Springs is about a 2 hour drive from Los Angeles and is located in the desert and the mountain views are beautiful. This is the perfect time to buy as far a rates go right now. With my income I could only get approved for $300,000.00, but right now in Palms Springs I can get a brand new home to my specifications, 3bdrm, 3 bath , pool and lots more for the high 200K's. So I'm happy about that. I just hate the Los angeles area, there are way to many people and the people are just not friendly. The same house that I can buy in Palm Springs for 300K would cost 1.5 million in L.A and that to me is insane.Sometimes I wish that I was back in the south, but then I went through Palm Springs on a trip and fell in love with it. After the kids enter college, I will lease out the house and buy an R.V and do all the traveling that I've always wanted to do. I can't wait to see all of the small out of the way places, some that are probably not even on the maps.Meet different people in different countries and see how they live and what makes them tick.I will be moving June the 30th , 2007 but I will stay in touch to see what everyone is doing.I really hope that more people fill out thier BIOS, it's nice to see how everyone is doing and what has transpired in thier lives. God Bless and Take Care! WELL I HAVE LOST 18LBS, I'LL HAVE TO SEND NEW PICS,YEA! 5/26/07 UPDATE; JUNE 15'07, I HAVE NOW LOST A TOTAL OF 24 LBS.I HOPE I CAN KEEP IT UP..............

Military
I did my BASIC training in Orlando Fl.. I have some very wild stories to tell, but I'm not sure if I want to put them in print, so ...Expand for more
let me think about that for a minute.I traveled a lot to different states and partied to much but everyone did, met lots of wonderful people. My permanent duty station was Washington State, Puget Sound, a nuclear submarine base.. I did not like the weather because it rained everyday, and all the clubs were located off base. I lived on base for a while on the 11th floor, there were beer machines at the end of each hall and the building was co-ed. So needless to say when I first arrived there at 18years old the party was on................. I was hurt very badly in the military, one thing is ,I survived a hangman's break, which is a break like in all the old westerns, at C-4 and C-5 (cervical) which as you know most of the people in the movies with that type of break did not survive, oh well , hell I did. This was all due to some other physical trauma going on at the same time. Well when I got out of the Navy , of course I received my honorable discharge and was then offered a 100% service connected discharged, but at the time I did not want to be considered disabled and I wanted to work.I did have some pride and I worked as long as I could. The last job I had was , I had opened a small country cafe. But then I started to have very many medical problems from the old injuries , they started getting worse the older I got , so I finally applied for my 100% service connection disability, and 11 months later I got it and a huge back pay. Now I go to the V.A a lot for my medical problems which have gotten very bad and try to do my best at the same time , to raise my last two children.Of course they will be taken care of as far as college, the military will pay for 4 years of school, books, tuition, and even a pay check. Right now the pay if the were in college would be 900.00 per month, by the time they go ,no telling how much, and they even get their choice of colleges. If they wanted to go to Yale or Harvard the military would pay for it.So that is another benefit that I'm glad for. from the Navy,I wanted to retire but unfortunately I got hurt. But , the Military has been very good to me as far as pay and benefits, so in that since I am very lucky that if I did have to get hurt at a job , that it was the military.I'll even have a military burial with honors, taps will be played and the guns being fired as a salute. Well at lleast I gave it my best and did receive an "HONORABLE".........tHATS ABOUT IT ON THAT PART OF MY LIFE............................................
