Laura's Story
Life
Now that we're all getting older, it makes you think about old friends. I've gotten in touch with several. It's great to see what everyone's doing now and where they live.
After high school, I went to Saddleback a little but mainly worked. I moved to the bay area for about four years but missed southern CA. I worked with special ed. kids for years from Autistic to more rare diagnosis. I worked in the Juvenile Detention Camps in OC for around 8 years. During this time, I realized that in order to make money I needed to go back to school. I had two boys while I was going to college. I worked fulltime the entire time also. (Anyone thinking of going back to school should. It's totally doable if you don't give up.)I got my BA in psych and was in PSI CHI honor society. I am finishishing up my MA in special education and a dual credential in special ed. and reg. ed, which I can use anywhere.
Then I was a special education teacher for students in the severe range. I loved it. I love working with students and finding the unique gifts that each child has. ...Expand for more
The last two years, I have worked at a school for students with severe behavioral problems that are sent to our day school program. I am the behavior specialist for the middle school students. I love my job but it can be very exhausting physically and mentally at times.
I still write poetry and stories. One day I hope to get published but for now it's still a hobby that I have continued since high school. I haven't played tennis in awhile but play lots of sports with my two very active boys.
I have two great boys Evan (10) and Max (8). They both play basketball, baseball, and soccer. Max plays allstars in baseball. Evan's sport is basketball. He's 5'4" at 10. His nickname is Shaq.
I also coach soccer in a recreation league and am on the soccer board. It is a lot of work but really rewarding.
We have a new Old English Sheepdog puppy named Cyrus. We are training him to be a therapist dog. He is awesome.
It's a big difference from OC because it is a small town (2,000 people and no stop lights) but only 15 minutes from major stores and no commuting!
