Laura's Story

I suck at keeping in touch with people. I live in Overland Park with my husband, two cats, two North American Doofus Hounds and a shrimp, clownfish and various and sundry crabs, snails and corals. I am in a local writing group that I helped start over two years ago (yay us!), and I'm in an MA program for writing popular fiction (like a creative writing MFA program but for authors who want to make money by writing stuff people actually want to read). I plan to graduate in June of '09 - assuming I can actually get my thesis done by February. Yikes. My husband is an OR nurse on a neurosurgical team. I put him through school (this is the second go-round for him, he's got a BA in econ from KU), now he's working while I'm in school, and when I'm done he'll go back for his BSN and...Expand for more
maybe his PA cert. Then I will NOT go back for my PhD, though I have seriously considered it just for the hat. My plan is to write something good enough that some university or other gives me an honorary doctorate. KU actually offers courses in sci-fi literature and they have GREAT hats. I play several computer and tabletop games, read a whole lot, write even more, and work at a training company as a product and project manager. I hope to get my MA and then teach at a community college while I write humorous/satirical speculative fiction. I own my own business - an editorial services agency - but it's on hold while I'm in school. I think that's about it. Life is more "busy exciting" than "happy fun exciting" right now, but hopefully happy fun exciting will ensue next June.
