Laura's Story
Life
I have been married for 20 years to Robert Dennis Johnston and we have two daughters, Courtney age 20 as she is attending Santa Ana College. Courtney wants to become a Paramedic. Megan is 12 and in the seventh grade with an online home school program. We have been in San Antonio for over one year and we are moving back California when the school year is over for Megan. The people here have not been comperative for me to get a nursing or medical job. I current credentials and they going to waste here being unemployed. I plan to go back to college to being a Medical Biller while working part-time nursing job.
School
A crazy moment came to me as I remember GRAD NIGHT at Disneyland as I went with Mike Corbett and he ripped his pants on the BOBSLEDS as he was getting of the ride. We had to go to the First Aid Station to get the pants sewed so we could finish the night's activities. Boy! We had such a laugh that night that even lasted for days.
College
I sure remember days at Santa Ana College and those days were sure special as I had many lunches of sandwichs, fries, BBQ hamburgers on school rallies in the amphitheater. I remember dressing up for Halloween as a clown. I sure remember studying for big exam...Expand for more
s on the bus home and again just before the test on the way to class. In Casa Loma College for nursing, I was the President of my class as well as an award for Academic Excellence that was the greatest feeling as the Big state exam was not so easy to pass but I did sucessfully.
Workplace
While I was attending Santa Ana College, I worked at the Mall of Orange at the Chic Accessories Store as a salesperson and an ear piercer. I worked there for four years until the store closed in 1984. After this experience, I decided to office and clerical work as I studied in college. I had experience in the insurance field of mortgage claims, auto claims and some insurance rating experience. I had some experience in Bill Collections for the utility companies. After I had attended Casa Loma College and graduated, I began nursing full-time. I really enjoy caring for others. I know that there is need for this today and always. I have about 20 years of nursing experience and wanted to do more until my accident two years ago that changed my life. I will making a career change to clerical and office and probably stay do this until my retirement.
