Laura's Story
Career
In the fall after high school, I went off to the University of California at Santa Cruz to pursue a degree in Theater Arts. I graduated four years later with a focus in dance and went on to perform in a regional dance company in the Monterey/Carmel area. In addition, I taught dance and did administrative work for a ballet school in that same area.
In 2000 I got injured and was looking for a change in direction. I enrolled in Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts to pursue certification in massage therapy, and a few months later I was working on the public. I worked in private practice, corporate massage, physical therapy clinics, and the yoga industry, but for some time I wasn't able to make much of a living at it.
I went back to school at the National Holistic Institute in 2006 to more deeply explore my chosen profession. Ten months later, I graduated with honors and landed a lucrative massage job at the Ritz-Carlton Spa in Half Moon Bay, where I have been ever since.
Avocation
As many of you who went to school with me know, I've always had a bug for the stage. When I moved to San Francisco in 2004, I got to resurrect that part of myself. I have been seen in numerous productions in small community theaters throughout San Francisco, and was lucky enough to be cast in a musical that...Expand for more
played on Union Square for three months!
Partnership
In 1995, I married someone I had been secretly dating throughout high school. I won't dwell much on this one, but suffice it to say, sometimes when you take up with someone when you're quite young, you often tend to go in different directions. We divorced in 2001.
For the next few years I re-entered the dating scene with the usual assortment of close-but-not-quites and a few not-even-closes. Then, in 2004, I was scheduled to sing at the wedding of a couple close friends, and they provided me with a guitarist for accompaniment. That guitarist and I not only rehearsed but then got to chatting and we discovered that we had grown up less than 50 miles apart (he grew up in SLO!), we went to the same university and the same massage school, and even knew a few people in common! Within a week we fell in love, and we were married two years later in 2006.
Life
We own an amazing 1906 Edwardian in San Francisco. The home improvement projects never stop! We have no children and don't plan to have any. We may adopt in the distant future, but for now we're content to be the doting aunt and uncle who corrupt the children and hand them back to their parents.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Feel free to drop me a line if you want to catch up!
