Laura's Story
Life
Bio updated 1109...I graduated in 86 with my BS in Nursing from Hawaii Pacific University (formally know as Hawaii Loa College). I have been an ER nurse the last 19 years. I am widowed and lost my husband in a boating accident 11 years ago. I moved to Truckee a beautiful area of snow and fresh mountain air in 97. My son Brad graduated from Truckee High School in the year 2000 and has graduated college and has become a Pastor. I am a Hospital Nursing Supervisor and still occasionally work in ER plus I am also a Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiner. I have recently obtained my Forensic Nursing Certification and have just finished my board exams and am now a Medical Legal Death Investigator. I also Volunteer my medical nursing services to the American Red Cross in times of disasters. I wear many hats and enjoy every one of them.
Great update...my son got married 1/16/10 and is in Hawaii for his honeymoon. He married a sweetheart of a woman and I am very proud of all the hard work and planning they did to have such a nice wedding. They also closed on a home not more than 15 mins away....I guess next stop...Expand for more
will be grandkids.
School
My biggest crush was from 8th grade until I met my high school sweetheart Paul in my sophmore year. That crush was on Patrick Rhodes.
The teacher who inspired me the most was Mrs Martin.....she was a awesomesly great teacher...funny....and gave a great party at her house. It was so awesome to be able to see her after all these years at the reunion....lol....I still called her Mrs Martin to which she said I could call her Sonja.
If I could do it all over again...well I wish I would have studied harder....understood the value of a good education and really wasn't so darn shy. Working as a ER nurse for many years ...plus maturity really zapped the shyness right out of me. I would never want to repeat High School again it was way too painful.
College
I have completed my Forensic Nursing Certification through Kaplan College and have also completed the Death Investigator Course through St Louis University. I am still working on my field experience.I was fortunate to intern at the Sacramento County Coroner's office in the Summer of 09 and still want to persue this part of my career.
