Laura's Story
Wes Haines was, by far, the most influential teacher I ever had. My band director and mentor for 6 years (at D.L. Barnes as well as Fairmont West), Mr. Haines was enormously talented and tough as nails. He was the kind of teacher who demanded what we thought was impossible. In addition to Mr. Haines, Eleanor Henderson was also a major influence. Without her guidance and encouragement in grade school (G.L. Ernst), it's unlikely I would have continued to play in high school. Our elementary school yearbook says it all. Most of the kids in her music program not only continued with music throughout high school, but excelled in it.
