Laura's Story
I went to Inman from Kindergarten until the middle of 7th grade at which time we moved to Decatur. I graduated from Druid Hills in 1965 and started at Georgia Southern in the Fall. After attending Georgia Southern for four quarters, I quit because I was "in love". It took a year of working full time at the CDC and going to night school for me to realize I really wanted to go back to school and finish my degree. And it helped that my "great love" broke up with me on my birthday. So I transferred to West Georgia where I finished in March 1970. ...Expand for more
I met my husband there, and we've been married for 38 years. We have one daughter who is married and lives in Hawaii.
I still remember Inman Elementary very well and the playground in the back. I attended the church across the street and played ball at the field catty-corner from the school. One memory I have is a disaster drill we had during the Cold War. Carloads of students were driven to Stone Mountain in a mock disaster drill - in case someone dropped a bomb on Atlanta. Why anyone would think we'd be safe at Stone Mountain is beyond me.
