Laura's Story
Life
I live in Minneapolis, where I am a poet, playwright and occasional performance artist combining music with spoken word poetry and other texts. I've done shows in the Minnesota Fringe Festival, Estrogenius in NY, LadyFest Chicago, the Walker Art Center, and many others.
I did a year toward my MA in writing at Illinois State immediately after undergrad and in 2004, finished my MA in Performance Studies at New York University. I am currently working on my PhD in theatre at the Unive...Expand for more

I have also been a political activist invovled with the Greens, Amnesty International, anti-war activism, and working with the homeless. I worked for 8 months as a live-in volunteer at a homeless shelter in Rock Island, Illinois, and have been to Washington DC for several rallies and political actions. One of those involved sleeping on the streets of DC for a week and lobbying members of Congress during the day for affordable housing legislation in the late 1980s.
