Laurie's Story

Well, people change in 41 years. (lets hopes so anyway) I live in a small town called Fort Valley, GA. It is a mix of many types. Mostly quiet. I work for a company here called Arriscraft International/General Shale Brick. I am in the Sales promotional department. (Just got a promotion) I am the only woman in the plant. Work with a great group of guys. I enjoy the simple stuff in life. I am the city girl that should have always been the country girl. I have moved around alot. My sister are more grounded then myself. One still in OH the other in KY and my brother is in ID. I love warm GA. If life or job took me someplace new I was ready to go. Quite different from my sister who has lived in only 2 places in her adult life. I like wood working and building things. Working in my garden. My animals basic homebody things. I came back to town at the 30th reunion. So much had changed. I really felt like an outsider. My older sister still lives in Shaker Heights. And my brother in Idaho. But Cleveland will always be home. I have lived long enough to know that less is more. If you can't pay cash you don't need it. Christmas is still my favorite holiday. Love decorating mostly outside now though. I have the town buildings scene indoors. My daughter and I usually go away for the holiday. Dollywood is one of our favorite places to go. Shopping favorite is a small town called Warm Springs, GA. I have been separated for about 17 years now. But now I am a widow. :>) My best friend Dot of 20 some odd years lives in Marietta, GA. Well that's my life now. It changes daily as we all do. I always wanted to be a Nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a Bad idea. As it turns out, they were family!. Well way back then I was quiet as a church mouse. Now I slam doors and yell. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have respect, space, and drive to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I meet a very wise man in my life that taught me about forgiving one's self. Owen was/is a very special man. He was separated from his wife when I meet him. They are now back together they went down there road I went down mine. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is R. R., because He was the love of my life.. Pets just love them like always. ...Expand for more
Hate sports now. Hate reality TV. Love the simple things in life. Life sometimes takes you to a fork in the road make wise choices. My daughter taught me that unconditional love is the very best kind. She has had more love in her life than I ever knew about. Sister Dullaretta...St. Stephens, Cleveland, Ohio If I won $100 million, I'd give all of it to my daughter , then spend the rest on nothing, Love trumps money and I have a trillion dollars there.. My current age is 58. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely WRONG!. My best friend would tell you I'm outspoken, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as ass.... Jobs are like life if you have lived it you love some hate some. I share my home with my daughter, which I find my very best friend.. If I had one thing in life to do over I would never have dated Randy Reffert. But I would never have married Jocho Byrd or Jim Bishop either. So just bad choices. Good people just not good for me. In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by the time I die!. My very best friend is Dot Creech, I meet here in 1989 in Marietta, GA we were neighbors. She is more like a sister to me. If I ever went to another it would be I am not quiet anymore. My first job was at Halle's Department Store, where I got paid .90 per hour to gift wrap and shipping and receiving. What I remember most about it is the lady that trained me. She said late is late 5 minutes or 5 hours makes no difference cemeteries are full of people that tried to rush. Don't rush thru life.. Sitting up on Christmas eve with my brother saying we would never drink like our parents. He choose to follow them I never did. You can love a sibling but you can't love anyone into seeing things right. All in all I have loved my life. Is it all I wanted it to be NO, but everyday we get a new day to change anything about ourselves that we do not like. It's like having one big eraser. I hate politics office or in Washington. I like privacy, so I hate most things government. I don't believe in credit bureaus, I pay cash and I don't like credit cards. I left Cleveland, Ohio I now live in Georgia I was who I was and now I am who I am. POSITIVE TRUMPS NEGATIVE EVERY TIME. SEE YOU IN MY 60'S.....
