Laurie's Story

My Story ~ The most precious years of my life were the 4 ½ years that I shared with my little boy Zacary. What a treasured gift from God. Do I understand why God took him away? No. But I do know that he is happy and that I will see him again. I have a great understanding of the poem ..Life is not measured by the number of breaths that we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. My greatest achievement in life ~ was knowing that I was the best Mom ever created. My sons favorite saying was ..Mama you are my best friend in the whole world. The most common question asked of me..Has it gotten easier with time ? No...You just learn to smile through the tears, and appreciate the special moments. My biggest fear was not being able to find a husband that could understand the death of a child. God conquered that fear. I am now married to a wonderful man who also lost a child. He is very thoughtful, especially on thosespecial days he never forgets to get me little gifts and cards from Zacary,.these acts of kindness mean the world to me. Some people forget, when youve lost a child, that you are still a Mother. My husband and I are First Responder Catastrophic Adjusters. Weve had a lot of adventure, and seen a lot of tragedy, but I believe because of our own tragedy, we express genuine compassion. I am still an artist. Along with my paintings, I do a lot of photography. After hurricane Katrina The sculptures of New Orlean...Expand for more
s, from the 1700-1800s were very damaged. The angels ended up with cracks through the faces, broken wings, and to me, even more beautiful. I have enhanced the photography, with my painting, and display them in art galleries and boutiques. Who would I say my greatest mentor has been throughout the years ? Coach Moore. Coach has been the father that I never had for most of my life, and my sons Grandfather. Coach has been there to perform my wedding, hes been there for my sons surgeries, he stayed with me after my son died, and probably the hardest thing he ever had to do was to perform Zacarys funeral. In every way, Coach has been one of the most important people in my life. Infact, I know Coach was important in a lot of kids lives throughout high school. Something you may not know, when we were in school, Coach would go one morning to the East side of town, next to the West, North and South...and pray...surrounding our town with prayer because he really cared about all the kids. That would almost be unheard of these days. We were very fortunate to have someone in our school who genuinely cared so very much. I always remember Coach walking through the halls holding one finger up to all of us...showing us that there is only one way. Its sad that the kids these days dont have that same freedom. Well, this is a flash of my story. To all of you with children, Love them with everything you have, they are a gift from God.
