Laurie 's Story
Life
I am married (again) and living a happy life. My name is now Laurie Baty. My previous married last name was Torres. My current husband and I got married in 2006 and have a blended family of eight children (4 his and 4 mine) and 13 grandchildren and 1 Great Granddaughter. We are currently living in Florida in the Tampa area. I’ve retired from the Army and retired from the federal government so now I am living my best life and loving it!
School
School was school. I moved around a lot so I went to several different schools. I have some good friends from each school I went to and still stay in touch with some of them. Affiliated with Lincoln High School, Governor Thomas Johnson HS and Walkersville HS.
College
I joined the military right out of High School and started college a few years later. I was living back in Frederick, MD so I pursued and received an Associate in Business Management from FCC.
Workplace
My first job was working in McDonalds, back in 1972......on Seventh Street. I met a lot of good friends working there. I also worked part time at Microgiological Asso...Expand for more
ciates with a Senior work program during my Senior Year. I served in the Military for three years and then got a Civil Service job at Fort Detrick where I worked for 8 years, then went back in the Military (Army). I stayed on active duty, retired in 2006 and immediately started back with a Civil Service position at Fort Bragg. I worked in Human Resources at the Soldier Support Center , (Welcome Center). Then worked at the USARC Headquarters, went to Camp Humphreys Korea for a 3 year tour with my husband, then returned to Fort Campbell, KY. I worked in the DHR as the Garrison Adjutant. I retired in 2018 from the government and my husband’s job took us to Fort Stewart, GA just outside Savannah. We lived there for 3 years and now are both retired enjoying the salt life in sunny Florida.
Military
I went to Basic Training at Fort McClellan, AL. From there I went to Fort Ord, CA; Camp Casey, Korea; St. Louis, MO; Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico; Dallas, TX; Fort Shafter, Hawaii; Fort Jackson, SC, and my last assignment was at Fort Bragg, NC. This is where I retired and am presently living.
