Laurie's Story
Well, it's been quite the bumpy road at times but who hasn't been there. I dropped out of high school and went to work at about 16. Worked at Steak-n-Shake(3 of them), I was a darn good carhop! Made some money and had alot of fun. At Pinellas Park High School I was a janitor and worked the night shift. It was a good job for awhile. From there I went to Square D Company and learned to wind transformers with coils ranging from lifesaver size to kitchen table size. I like the challenge. Got married at 21 and had my first son Kenneth. Went back to school for my GED and some other classes. Went to work for ITI for a couple years. Got divorced. Moved to Massachusetts by my Mom and had another son Matthew at 30. Got homesick and came back to Fl. Still in a relationship with his...Expand for more
father. (20+ years) Went to work at Clearwater Laundry for a year. Got back in at what is now GE-ITI and have been there over 17 years. Still building transformers... Was given custody of our teenage niece Deanna in 2002 and now have a baby "granddaughter" from her. Lost my only brother Donnie to suicide in 2003 and that just about destroyed me. I have been on somewhat of a "mission" to find out what happened to family and friends every since then. Life is sometimes shorter than we expect. Currently living in Clearwater with my boyfriend and 2 sons.
2010 UPDATE: Got married to my younger son Matthew's father David on Oct. 2nd this year. It was a casual wedding in the park like we had planned 30-something years ago. We had a great day and are happy we finally did it!
